it’s not typical of sony to not include dvi out on something as fancy as this. especially with their nice monitors and digital projectors.

DVI would definitely be nice; however, they shouldn’t be docked too badly about this since pretty much no one else is doing this except Apple.

Also, oddly enough, more than half of Sony LCDs don’t have DVI connectors which is a damn shame. It’s not just Sony either. A lot of manfucturers are still releasing LCDs without DVI. How much can it actually cost to add it? Technically, it should be cheaper than implementing VGA since there’s no Digital-to-Analog conversion electronics necessary. Anyways, DB15 aka VGA is a safe bet for now although having DVI would be nice in the future models as DVI should be more prevalent in forthcoming models.

The reason DVI isn’t a standard is that there is a new technology that is much better then DVI and VGA that is close to release. It’s a cable about the size of a USB end and it’s supposed to be the next big thing. When I get home i’ll get the name.

I presume this new standard you mean is HDMI, but to be honest, its not much better than DVI.. it essentially carries digital video and audio in one cable.. it has a few small differences from dvi on the video side of things, but nothing noticable (i have a pioneer plasma with hdmi in, and have tried it with a dvi dvd player, and an hdmi dvd player).

Also, from what i understand HDMI is likely to stay in AV realms with DVI staying as the computer standard for a fair while yet.. so i wouldn’t say this is an excuse for Sony not to include DVI.

Yeah, i forgot to look, but that sounds right. According to what i’ve been told, it will be the new standard because of it’s size and higher quality (even if it’s slight) over DVI. DVIs been out for a while and IMO it hasn’t really caught on.

ive got a question regarding the dvi port. i want to buy a lcd screen for my desktop (the video card has a vga port and not dvi) and was wondering if the lcd i bought had a dvi, is there some kind of interface available that would let me convert that dvi port into a regular vga port or do i have to compulsorily look for an lcd with a vga port.

Most DVI-capable LCDs have both types of ports in the back, at least the ones that I’ve used anyway. They’re not going to totally abandon the the old VGA port market so easily.

I had a friend who bought an LCD and got stuck with DVI out only!  It was a house brand and he got it because it was so inexpensive online.  “Let The Buyer Beware”.

We should be careful when we shop online.  Always check the specs, then double check them with an online representative.  Or, you just shop with companies you or someone you know trusts.

Good luck, Rahul.  If in fact you are in this scenario, see if you can sell it on Ebay since you may have paid little for it, or hope the restock fee ain’t so bad. :wink:

i have to take another thing into consideration as well…since I’ll be taking that LCD for my parents in India I have to also make sure the adapter can take 240v input or else I’ll have to buy a converter.
