I have the opportunity of gettng a laptop through work and so i am toying with selling the T and buying a TX.
I would go from a 1.1gHz with 1GB RAM to a 1.2gHz with 1GB RAM. other specs are pretty much even, but it’d be newer etc.
Is it worth doing?
I love the look of the TX, I’m very tempted to pick one up but I won’t part with my X…so it’s a no-go for me…but for that price I would def. swap it out.

you know i love the T series I have. It’s fast, nice keyboard size (i changed from a U101 because of the keyboard size), and great screen in the daylight. It craps all over my Powerbook for screen viewing in sunlight, the Mac looks awful but the xbrite is still quite viewable.
I’m tempted mainly because of the cheap upgrade, but it doesn’t upgrade that much considering the specs of the T. And will i hate it? Will it have problems like those reported on this forum? The t is rock solid, so is it better the devil i know?
but don’t get below TX770P’s if you are planning just to get the TX6xx or TX750’s don’t even think on upgrading.. it’s basically the same thing.. only difference are
T2xx/T3xx
-60gb
-512MB (some are 1gb)
-Intel 855GME Graphics
TX6xx/TX750’s
-80Gb
-1Gb (on TX6xx some are 512Mb)
-Intel 915GMS Graphics
I just upgraded from the TR a few weeks ago. I love it thus far.
Bigger, brighter, thinner screen, yet the overall computer footprint is small and lighter. Instant on LED screen is awesome, especially if you work from standby alot. Screen brightness range from lower to higher is increased. Definitely faster that my 1.0 ghz TR. The addition of the SD reader is welcomed to me since my cameras use both. Better speakers. Weight difference is noticeable
The fan is more bothersome, but not noticeable unless is is absolutely quiet. Not enough for me to send it back. Sure I would like it as quiet as my TR, but my old SR5K was nosier. Screen colors are fine to me, but havent directly compared to my TR yet.

I wouldn’t say it is the same thing (i.e., T2xx-T3xx vs TX6xx-TX750). Performance wise, you are probably correct. The TX is slightly smaller and lighter, yet has a bigger screen. The extra pixels are noticeable to me since I use two pages side-by-side alot in word. Overall, everything on the screen is slightly larger, although just an incremental increase. You also have the addition of the SD reader. The main difference is the screen, however. Although some may complain about the colors, they are fine in my opinion. The LED backlighting is brighter and won’t degrade in brightness at a rate comparable to the fluorescent backlighting. I know my TR has degraded over time. I also like the instant on light-up.

Well first of i don’t know the currency for AU but if its not that much then ya I would do it but which ever looks cooler or better go for that. But true the TX is newer then your T but whatever you want its your pick and your money. Maybe you can sell the T for more then you brought it lol my friend did that. Good luck.

Oops sorry about the screen size and the built in SD card slot along with MS as MagicGate compatible format, and the new style of the TX, forgot those. Yes performance wise it’s better to stay and wait until ULV Dual Core arrives.. T series is really great I still have my T250P, and I don’t miss it.. I have the TX770P right now and there is a difference in performance from my T250P as I configure them exactly with the same programs and startups.. TX770P wins by 12-15 seconds of boot time.
And playing KOTR2 on both of them, TX770P plays it well. I’ll try playing Prince of Persia and see if it works, because I had sound error/problem on my T250P..

Wow nice Archival your like the first one to compare T and TX boot times and 12-15 secs is very significant but it could also be your T is older and has a bigger registry etc to load up but besides that ya thats a big jump up. With dual core would it be so much faster because i know multitasking it wins but just one on one is there so much of a difference?
Was that fast enough? geesh it’s just seconds.. I was wondering even more.. so I said too bad to myself but then again you say it’s better? hmm didn’t know.. I have Norton Firewall and AV running and StyleXP, but I have this problem about missing Tray Icons.. crap it’s so sporadic that the Speaker keeps appearing or re-appearing on the next boot up and so is the Intel Wireless program.. anyone knows how to fix this issue? both machines have the same issue.. anyone
:?:
[quote author=“mlouie”]My boot up is definitely faster than my TR, having removed the same amount of junk from startup.
For $300, definitely worth it. Try it out. If you don’t like it enough, unload it on ebay.
You make a good point. Since on paper the difference between them is minimal I really didn’t think it was worth the hassle (and i risked losing my bright screened, quiet little unit).
But there’s things that don’t show up on paper, i.e. smaller footprint but bigger screen. I didn’t realise that and now i’m more interested. I actually thought the t’d be smaller than my old TR but it isn’t. It’s smaller in some ways but bigger in other and it doesn’t fit in my old TR’s bag so that sucked. Since i looked into the TX ages ago and without my T being present there’s only one thing for it - I’m rocking out to the store on the weekend and puting them side by side 8)
Just a quick additional note:
Something i reckon is very cool on the TX is the instant on feature, where you can press the AV button and watch a DVD, listen to a CD or view pics/videos from the hard drive or a card without booting into windows. IT’s cool. Does it by booting from a linux partition interestingly enough.
Tomorrow i’m off to look at one in a shop, but i found this review series which does some pretty in depth testing and the T350 really comes out better on just about everything over the TX: http://www.mobilityguru.com/2005/12/15/goodbye_sony_vaio_t/index.html
Well japanese dude think about it. Not just looking at performance stuff just which looks nicer. 2nd which is lighter, longer, wider etc. The TR has the smallest demensions but the fattest. The T has similar demensions to the TR but the battery sticks out back. The TX is the lightest but the widest. To me the TR looks the nicest but isn’t as sly as the T or TX. To me the TX looks the worst out of all of them. So if you count performance over wideness and less style compared to other two(depends on your eyes) because for me id rather it be slightly heavier but less demensions but thats just me. So its all up to you which one you need more but it usually at ends up which you like better in looks since there almost identical. Ive tried out all of them there all good works of machines. But the TX’s screen opening people say its flimsy its true its not that it would break just that you can feel it bend but never break. Good luck choosing.
