The real hard drive space available is always less than what is really advertised. From every hard drive I’ve ever owned, the real space is around 93% of the advertised space, so a 100 gb stated hard drive will really have 93 gb of storage space. This is just my experience with the hard drives I’ve used but its never what the advertised space is, which is stupid if you ask me.

rahul the reason for this is because they always tell you what the unformatted space is. when you allocate the clusters on the drive the actual amount you can use is always less - thats why a 2mb floppy disk only gives you 1.44mb of space (old example i know but it doesnt really work if i use a 2gig flash drive)

while this is the case with the tx2, additional space is used to hold the backups/linux software.

and none of this is helping me resolve my fan problem!! i cant believe that so many people bought the tx1 and have just put up with this without trying to find a solution!

It has the same issues as the regular TX redness issue with coloring, fan is loud as hell, and it still runs very hot.

With regard to the noise from the fan coming from the chassis fan of the TX1, on the basis of my six months experience with the TX1 be a grave exaggregation to say that the fan noise is “like hell” or something similar. The sound of the fan is moderate or less, only audible periodically in a total silent environment.

The TX6xx are much more quiet than the TX7xx. You can barely hear the 650s when running in battery savings mode.

I don’t have the TX6xx but the TX750P’s fan noise is acceptable, IMHO.  A bit louder than my T250P.  All in all it’s ok, the screen is acceptable now after more than a week of usage.  I like the fact the LED light instantly and much brighter outdoors, my T250P is too dim and I have to wait several minutes to warm up and it’s not as clear and brighter.  But anyway I might sell my T250P to my mom.. hehe  

I just managed to drop the CPU temp (as measured by MobilMeter) from constantly around 57/58 °C to less than 53 °C by using a tiny quiet external fan! The trick seems to be that you have to blow some air into the casing where it spreads around and cools everything a little.

While I don’t find the TX fan to be overly loud (and am more concerned with how long it will stand that permanent operation) maybe this helps the ones that have louder fans.

makes me wish there were little PCMCIA-Card-sized fans. More silent than the internal one of course.
