Ultra Mobile PC almost here - release date 7th March.

Seems to be a meme lately. MS will show off their Origami product at CeBit next week and it’s just a few months since Nokia started selling their 770.

Did I miss the mobile PC boat or something? This week I’m doing work modifying my company’s corporate intranet to make it easier for mobile users with Treos to access data on the site. Who do they think is going to buy these tablets? There can’t be that many übergeeks out there.

I’m not quite sure about these just yet. I think the interface is going to need a major overhaul if they’re going to stick Windows on these things. I’m already using a 10.4” TabletPC (which I love) but it pushes the edge on usability. It’s perfect as it is and I can see how anything smaller maybe be cumbersome to use even with direct pen input.

Battery life is going to have to be serious for these devices. We’re already on the second half of the decade and we’re still dealing with only 2-4 hours of standard battery life. What kind of joke is that? Anything that dares call itself an “ultraportable/ultramobile” system needs to have a minimum of 6-8 actual usable hours of battery life.
