I have the standard and extended batteries for the TR - if I boot the machine up with the standard battery, then hibernate it, then swap in the extended battery, it all works fine. Except… neither Microsoft’s control panel app nor PowerPanel know that the new battery is in. So the taskbar icon and the “battery information” toolbar just show “100%” until the battery is half-empty and then start counting down.

They both have “refresh” buttons temptingly on their “battery information” screens, but they sure as heck don’t seem to refresh what sort of a battery it is…

Any ideas appreciated,

There’s nothing “wrong” here. That’s how it always works. The only way to get the OS to know that there’s a different battery is:

1) Swap the batteries while the AC Adapter is plugged in.
2) Completely shutdown and reboot the system after the battery has been changed.

When you swap it in a hibernated state, there’s no way for the OS to know that you physically swapped it since it’s maintaining the OS in a running state. The OS can only detect a change if the change happens while the system is active.

Hmm. Oh-kay… then what are the various “Refresh” buttons on the battery screens? Particularly the ones that don’t actually have any data on them, except the make/model of the battery?  :shock:
