I think I’ll be leaving these forums. Its been really great here, everybody’s been very nice and helpful. I had frequented these forums because I had thought I would be able to get a Vaio T or TX.
I’ve found out that that is an impossibility for me right now and so I got myself a Toshiba Satellite M55, which is a beast compared to these oh so sexy and ultraportable Ts and TXs. 

Of course, I am but a poor college student whereas most of you are working adults with an income unlike me. I’ll just have to wait till I grow up a bit, get a job and score me a Vaio T. 
Don’t think many college students can afford the premium the Vaio Ts command.  :(

The trick is to get it for free- have someone that can easily afford one break it, replace it, and you take the broken one! That’s how I got my TR2A, though I didn’t even have to do any of the schemeing; my status as tech guru leads people to gift broken things to me… kinda sucks, but in this case it works out nicely!

Well just because you don’t have one ‘yet’ doesn’t mean you have to leave the forum.  Stay to keep up with the latest and the general chit chat.

And keep an eye on eBay.  That’s where I got my TR second hand for a pretty good discount.  And I’m a student.  You’ve just got to save, save and save some more…

I only got the Toshiba due to it being offered at such a great price for the specs it has and plus it was being sold by Costco with its excellent 6 month return policy. I know I’ll at least enjoy it more than my HP DV4000. I cannot use a notebook larger than 14”, I just can’t.
Of course, the smaller the notebook, the better for me. The smallest I could handle is the 10.6” screens used in the Vaio Ts. Any smaller, like the new Toshiba Libretto, and my eyes would be killing me.

Costco is selling refurbished Vaio T240s, T250s and T350s on their website. If I could, I’d buy one and then return it 6 months later and repeat, but I’d feel quite bad about doing that.

I really, really wanted to get a Vaio TR/T/TX but the prices are a bit too high for me to stomach right now, I’m pretty poor compared to most of you.
I don’t have any income whatsoever and my dad bought me the Toshiba for college, and so I count myself lucky. He could have bought me a $2000+ Vaio TX, but then he wouldn’t buy me another computer for 6 years and I don’t think I could use a Vaio TX as my only PC for 6 years you know? My notebook is my only PC.

Anyways, long live ultraportables, especially the Vaio Ts!!!  :D

So far, only Fujitsu, Averatec and Sony have produced 10.6” notebooks. I wish more manufacturers would make em and so the price of them would hopefully come down. I guess there isn’t a big market for ultraportables and subnotebooks right now, most people go for the 15.4” beasts. I would be interested in what ultraportables HP/Compaq, Toshiba, Gateway would make.

/slap noone abandons sony they are too good and too great you are an outsider an alien! But i guess you did admit that you couldn’t afford the sony ultraportables. Sony is all style all other companies get owned by them! Ya you pay more but you get better quality and style. Right now you are cursed unless you buy the sony in the future…

Seriously, do come back here in the name of fun… not everything that’s discussed here is about Sony or its products. There are a bunch of interesting lads around to give this forum more life that you think it has.  :D

you could have bought a TR from Japan. Cheap as over there. I’ve had two TR’s and now got a T (loved my U101 but just couldn’t get the use out of it - keyboard too small to type on). TR’s are going for maybe $500 us in Japan.

There are actually a decent number of ultraportable or near ultraportable notebooks available if you didn’t want to be burdened with a large notebook.

Of course, it does ultimately depend on budget constraints and personal preference. Style and coolness is one thing but functionality and meeting your usability requirements is more important.

My last notebook was a Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D, 10.6” ultraportable and competitor to the TR. Too bad I accidentally killed it.  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry:
It was a pure joy to use, I have fallen in love with subnotebooks and it met my needs just fine, I don’t do demanding things with my computer and I found the screen and keyboard size to be just perfect, though any smaller, I’d have trouble using it. When I get the cash, all my notebooks would be ultraportables complementing a powerful desktop.
