I’ve been looking at the Avermedia hybrid DVT and analogue TV card. You can do most things it seems, time shift, record to hard drive and even break the signal out cia cables to your TV.
personally, i would avoid avertv products, as i have had two, the avermedia ultraTV usb 300 and the Avermedia TV Box 9. Both are deficient in thier own ways. I still use the Box9 here in nepal, but the audio output rots and even though it says it supports PIP at higher then 1024x768 - it does not. The USB box was a joke. I found out later after purchase that the PAL support was only for South Africa and a few small islands in the Artic Ocean or some such bunk. None of the software that came bundled looked very professional either, which was a surprise for such a big company. Support is non-existent.
But, the idea of a pmcia tv tuner is a good one, and I doubt very many people make one, so the choices may be limited and that may be your best hope.
Ps. okay now help me with my ipod-to-tr3 problem…
love,
jigs
I looked into buying PCMIA tuner a while back on a number of PVR forms; everyone who had used one before recommended sticking with USB tuners if PCI tuners aren’t available. One or two said there are problems with electrical interference build up inside the compartment, others said the the components suffer from the miniturezation and become too hot very quickly.
They could be wrong; I kindof hope they are, but you don’t see the primary manufacturers (Haupaugge and ATI) selling PCMIA cards, and inherent low performance would be a very good reason.
I don’t know anything about DTV tuner cards, but I assume its same story. A couple of the USB devices are supposed to be pretty good, you might try them. Also, are you mostly looking to do schedualed recordings or use it to watch tv live?
looks cool, pricey, and without a cable input, limited? I thought the design for this one was grand a year ago: but as mentioned, the PAL version only works at specific parts of the planet, most of which uninhabited:)

that was well thought out
sorry, i just meant to say that one looked like a lot of money and may not be of use if cable is the access point. like almost all the rooms here in nepal/india which have cable plugs but no TVs. That’s why i got the aver model…but alas the PAL chip only works where the Dharma Inititive Project is located.

Been runing azureus for quite a while (Mac stuff ) and it rocks. Do you find it’s sooooo slow on some things though? Or is that just BT itself?
yea, all torrents are like that, some blaze, others crawl, and there are so many tweaks in Azureus (windows) it’s hard to get it all right. I guess maybe it’s all really up to who is seeding. I can download apps, in general fast, but the series THE 4400, second season took almost a month. But we have been watching LOST too, and as soon as an episode comes out, an hour or so later we are watching it.
cheers,

It’s probably both. Azerus is written in Java which is slow to begin with. The torrents themselves can be ridiculously fast or ridiculously slow. You sort of need to get in early to get the fast downloads. Older content will be difficult to get and may take weeks to finish.
Some seem to be more system hungry…not sure what since it’s not Memory or CPU, well I guess it has to be one of those. Anyway, I switched from BitCommet to uTorrent and saw a huge performance jump (not torrent speed, but lack of computer slow-down) over Bitcommet.
I also suggest deleting trackers from the list after you finish downloading and seeding, even idle trackers seem to slow down the pc.
New here. Just got a Sony TR2AP for a really descent price in eBay.
I am using AverMedia PCMCIA TV tuner card, and I have to say that it works very well on my Sony TR2AP. Can display full screen in the system. Not sure if it’s really a wide-screen though.
