I saw there was a BIOS update and am wondering if this laptop can support more then 1 GB of memory now?  I was thinking of installing two 1gb chips into the system, but the book states it can only hold 1gb total (512 x 2). 

Also, how exactly do you open up the system to install the chips?

Hi buddy, in regards to the post made talking about maxing the Vaio T350P up to 1.5gig. I’ve just bought a Vaio T350/L. Can you give me the type of ram you bought. Ie model number and that? I want to make sure the RAM I buy off eBay is compatible.

Yeah, Sony officially says the Ts can only take up to a gig of ram but others say its theoretically possible to install more.

since the 512mb is integrated into the system, do I have to keep the upgrade 512mb to keep them the same?  or can the memory modules be uneven in size?

BTW, will an upgrade from 512mb -> 1gb make a big difference?  I heard that it increases battery life since the system caches more into memory and the hard drive access reduces.

Depends on what you’re doing. Personally, I feel that an ultraportable like the Ts don’t need much ram since people use them for relatively simple tasks like web surfing and the like. The Ts can’t game and most people won’t use em for photo or video editing due to its small screen and slow hard drive.

Anyways, my old Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D had 512 megs of memory and never gave me problems, it was always snappy. You would gain a bit of battery life, but probably only a couple of minutes, nothing substantial.

The T is perfectly capable for building websites, run PS CS2, autocad and many others. It works perfect for small/medium sized projects.

Oh really? Guess I underestimated its capabilities. I’d say that 512 megs of ram is enough if all you’re doing is web surfing, document typing, dvd movie watching, mp3 listening, playing old 2d games etc. I did just those tasks with my Lifebook P5020D with 512 megs of ram and it never stuttered, never slowed down, nada. Yeah it’d be different if I were doing autocad or heavy photoshop though.

Its a shame though that it can only take up to 1.5 gigs of ram whereas the cheaper Averatec 1000 series can take up to 2 gigs of ram for example. Though like the guest above said, that much ram isn’t really necessary.
Somebody did max out the ram on it to 2 gigs, did it just because he could, thats totally overkill for an ultraportable though.  :shock:

Yes if you do it would be same problem as TR which could really take 2G of ram but you would have hibernation problems so thats why sony says 1G for T and TR really but the motherboard and graphics card support 2G and 1.5G for T because u cant switch one thats in motherboard but if you use hibernate forget getting more then 1G

So what kind of Hiberation problem would I have if I went to 1.5gb of ram?

It wont let you hibernate at all sadley :(

Thats strange!  But If you only do the 512mb upgrade to bring it to 1gb it works perfectly fine?
