I have had to put a new hard disk drive in my PC (VGN-T2XP = PCG-4D1M) and don’t have the original CDs which came with it which contain the drivers for the original hardware.
I know I can go to
http://www.vaio-link.com/downloads/register/register.asp?l=en&p=preinstalled
to download them, but only if I know the product code and serial code of the PC. Given thet they are definately not stuck on the chassis, how can I find these out ?  Or possibly get the drivers from elsewhere ?

Is there a label on the bottom of the computer?  This is where the product code and serial number is usually found.

If you don’t have a label on the bottom of your computer, you can get the download packages by going to the VAIO-Link FTP Server directly:   .

The files you’re looking for are T2_Drivers.zip and T2_Utilities.zip.  Download them to your computer (they’re big: 30.6MB and 28.6MB) and unzip them.

Speaking of serial and p/n on the bottom, what does that po0xxxxx number mean…anything in particular?

I picked up a T240 off of ebay that was supposed to be new. However, it was shipped in a box that was not marked like a usual Vaio box, no usual niceties sent with it, and a few minor scratches on the case. Otherwise it is flawless, no dead pixels, works perfectly, etc. The seller has agreed to take it back if I want, but I’m not sure if I should or not. I would only get another T series-that’s if I could find one still, and good luck finding one new. The TX series is a good upgrade, but I have heard mixed reviews and I would not get it for what I paid for the T240 for.

So, in a nutshell, I am wondering if this item is refurbished? Any way to tell? It looks as if the scratch came from the shipping rather than from use.

If a Sony product has been refurbished, than you will see a sticker on the bottom that says: “REFURBISHED”, but it can easily be removed though. The seller prolly just played some with the notebook and it can be in a pristine condition, threw out the box and just posted it for sale on Ebay.

hi there when i open some of the aforementioned drivers on my vgn-t2xp (pcg-4d1m) i cant seem to find the setup bit. can someone explain how i install these drivers. i am struggling with 4 different ones. they are:-
ethernet controller
mass storage controller
video controller
video controller (vga compatible).

if no-one can tell me how to install these sony ones can i get them somewhere else.
