I just ordered one through PCMALL and I am so looking forward to getting it.  Does anyone else have this model and how is the DVD burner?

I have the TR3SP model from Japan and the DVD Burner is very good. Obviously it’s - DVD’s only and 2x but it works with no problems. It’s the only 9.5mm DVD writer apparently so only option Sony had but it works fine.

Yes it has bluetooth, I also had a US English keyboard fitted to it because I didn’t want all the Japanese characters on the keyboard. The OS and all software is also in English.

You can get this from http://www.icube.us who can set all this up for you and order, ship the laptop. They will also ship it back to Japan for any repairs in the first year (3 year warranty on Japanese Sony’s). An extremely good and efficent company from my dealings with them so I can fully recommend them.

What antivirus and security software are you guys using with the TR3AP3?

Mine will be here in a few days and I want to get it all set up.  I definitely do not want to use Norton.

Yes the bluetooth is working just fine. So far only tested with my P900 and my Bluetooth GPS unit but it works fine with both. Will have an XDA 2 soon however I have read that ActiveSync will not work with it however that doesn’t bother me as I won’t be syncing that on the laptop I imagine.

The DVD writer is 2x, not 2.4x. 2.4x is for DVD+R discs. The Sony only burns DVD-R/RW disks. Just to let you know incase you go off buying the wrong media.

I also noticed today there is a firmware update for this writer on the Sony US site, no info on what it does but firmware updates for writers normally are to improve their compat with different media. So should be worth putting on.

I have been using my TR3AP3 for a few days and I am loving it. I had a Z505JS (gave it away) and still have a Z1AP2.  I like the Z1 and TR for different uses.  The TR3 definitely packs a lot into a small package and it is MUCH easier to use in the cramped airline seats.  I got tired of having the person in front of me recline onto my monitor.  I have been using memory sticks for about 6 years now and I love being able to transfer my data easily between cameras, Clies, notebooks and desktops.  I have been trying to run the TR3 through its paces and no hang-ups yet… It always takes me about a day to delete/install all the software I require.  So far…A GREAT computer.  I also want to thank all the contributors to this board. I did some extensive lurking prior to getting my TR. Thank you for all the good information.
