Isn’t it true that the T2XX and T3XX series use a different, slightly higher capacity battery than the ones on the T1XXs and they aren’t intercompatible with each other?

Also, is the antenna on the side of the T3XXs removable and is it only used for the EDGE connections? I know very little about computers, but I thought it would also make the Wifi radio perform better as well but I’m probably wrong about that.

I wish someone could make a very comprehensive and detailed T series faq like somebody did on the U series.

You might be right about the battery. The VGP-BPS3A entry on Sony’s page only mentions the T2xx and T3xx models.

The WiFi antenna is in the bezel around the top of the screen, AFAIR. It’s optimized for 2.4 GHz (BT & 802.11b/g) and 5.4 GHz (802.11a) frequencies rather than the 1900 MHz (and possibly 850 MHz) frequencies Cingular uses, hence the additional antenna.

I wish there was a way to take off the antenna, since if I get a T3XX, I’d never use the slow and expensive Cingular EDGE network. Why did you say 802.11A when all the T’s wireless cards can only support B and G?

The antennas on most Centrino laptops are optimized for both 2.4 and 5 GHz (mis-wrote it before). It’s relatively easy because the upper end of the 2.4 GHz range is almost exactly double the lower end of the 5 GHz range, so you can have an antenna close to optimal gain with both frequencies.

You sure its easily removable? I know the antenna on the TX series is but I really don’t think the one on the T series is. Or would I have to yank/rip/force it off?

If you’re never going to be putting it back on, what’s the difference?

Ive read that its easy to pull off and put back on for the T thats what i read from some users just have hole in nice laptop dont like that heh

Gundam, you’re talking about the TX series where there’s an ugly hole when you remove the antenna, I’ve never heard of anybody removing the antenna on the T series, I don’t think I should if I get one.
