I was wondering if there are any T users here who have upgraded to a TX or use both notebook and would be willing to tell us how the TX compares to your older T.
I haven’t had a chance to try out a TX but I have with the T and I’ve fallen in love with the T.
I’m worried about the complaints of the TX having more fan noise than the T and a squishly keyboard like the TRs. I didn’t like the TR’s keyboard too much, not as much as the Ts.
Also that because of the thinness of the LCD, its very fragile. I think I’d be very afraid to open and close the lid of my notebook frequently.
Plus, I personally find the Ts more attractive, but thats just me. Oh yeah, I’m really confused to as why Sony put a plastic flap over one USB port and the modem port but they didn’t cover up the other USB ports and the ethernet port like they covered up the modem and ethernet ports on the Ts???? Makes it look ugly. I also hate the placement of the modem port, not like I’m gonna use it though but they should have placed the modem and ethernet ports together and near the back of the notebook like on the Ts.
Don’t mean to offend any TX users, but do any of you get the feeling that Sony didn’t spend as much time and effort on the TXs as they did on the TRs and Ts?? The TXs seem a bit rushed and lacking if you ask me.
The weight reduction and the larger screen make a difference! The negation of these facts seem ridiculous and stubborn, and irrational. For me the TX keyboard has a better look and feel, and the screen IS in fact bigger, and better. There seems that someone has an urge to repeat points of view that do not correspond to the facts.
[quote author=“Gilberto”]That’s how the nonsense starts. WITH RUMORS
Touchpads are the same hardware so there is no charge there, the FSB is identical on both at 400Mhz, the TX is 130grams lighter and I doubt many people will see the difference, the screen is a tad bigger, although the resolution is a tad smaller as well so essentially it will look the SAME on both, the keyboard is mushy on the TX, while it is perfect on the T, the DVD buttons are available on both models, the only one missing is the AV one. The savings from the LCD are eaten away by the newer chipset as well. I wont go into details although I prefer my laptop to never reach 82C while running at 1.2Ghz. The TX does that. If they fix the fan noise, solve the heat issue as well as the LCD issues, I might be tempted. Until then, the TX is just another overpriced, buggy laptop.
Believe me, I am a first adopter myself, although I won’t buy crap just because it is new. All the folks here who troll about the TX, like it for the sole reason it is new.
I think you may be right in that the TXs are buggy. If you ask me, the TXs were rushed compared to the TRs and Ts. Does the TX really get that hot? Not good at all and I have heard that fan gets annoying sometimes. Also, why did Sony put such a small eject button on the optical drive and then put a separate eject button next to the dvd buttons on the hinge? They should have just put one or the other. And I find it silly that they put a cover over the modem and one usb port but not the others. Why cover the modem port from dust but not the ethernet one???
I also didn’t like how they put orange letters on a light gray keyboard, it looks really hard to see.
I personally haven’t used a TX, but judging by the pics, the keyboard looks “mushy” to me, with very little depth. I have used T display models and their keyboards were great, better than the TRs for sure.
I’m hearing that Sony will revise the TXs to have no fan, which will solve the fan noise, but what about the early adoptors who paid $2000+ for these rushed, buggy machines!?!? Shame on you Sony!!! These haven’t even been out for half a year!
I bought the TX to replace my Averatec 1050 that got run over by a car. Talk about buggy! I decided I was going to go gold standard this time; I needed an ultraportable; and the TX was the machine on the market at the time I was buying.
I don’t regret not having the TX2. The fan noise is barely noticeable. I had the TX powered up and plugged in for 10 hours straight today while completing a “take-home” exam in the library at my law school. The fan was on. I felt it when I put my hand next to the machine to leaf through a book. Then, I strained my ear a little bit, and sure enough, I heard it. But I had to pay attention to the fan noise.
The machine does what I need it to. It’s fast enough, light enough, sturdy enough, and has a long enough battery life (I forgot my AC adapter on Thursday and got 5.5 hours out of it before I shut down, with it still telling me I had over an hour left. Yes, I turned off the wi-fi and the HD, and I brought the screen brightness down.)
If the T had been on the market at the time that I needed to buy a gold standard ultraportable, I’m sure I’d be just as happy with it as I am with the TX.
It’s true that I don’t have much technical knowledge, but when preferring a TX I have long daily user experience with both machines (T and TX), and before that, the TR. To say that it’s only different casing, just makes my point: I like the casing (including both screen and keyboard); The overall casing and keyboard look, feel better, and the lesser weight of the TX also makes it much better. The screen itn’t “just a tad” bigger, the difference really makes a difference! And to mangage to make a bigger screen when the casing has the same size is impressing. And the people who not think that the screen shows red in an OK way. I simply dont understand it. On my TX screen, side by side with the T screen, I can see good red color, and see a wider picture on my TX screen because it is wider. And the weight reduction is also a difference to most I have talked with about it.
So, all in all: Sony has made the first step in a promising development when making the TX. What I really cannot understand, is the few (also in this forum) that seem to have an complusive negating attitude to these changes to the better in the TX.
Having used the TX now daily for six weeks, carrying it in a slip bag in my shoulder bag, I have not been close to damaging it. The screen may look delicate, but in my experience it is sturdy enough when treating it with regular care. I also like the extended wideness of the screen, it surely makes the screen more pleasant to look at, as the picture gets bigger and in that respect better for my eaysight. So if you are gentle with the TX, there should be no problem.
[quote author=“rahulnirmal”]To you TX users, how is the screen? The thinness of it looks nice, buts its useless if it only makes the screen more prone to cracking or breaking. What do you guys think of its LCD?? It looks EXTREMELY fragile to me, and I’m very gentle with my computers and I’m still worried about its screen…..
Check this thread , in which the TX designers say that making the screen thinner actually made it more resistant to cracking, because thinner glass bends more easily and is less likely to break.
I’ve owned both and prefer the TX. That said, my T250 died at 10 months (Sony wouldn’t honor warrenty - said it was spill damage - it was humdity). I’m waiting (and waiting) for the repair box to send my TX back for the second time in 2 months. You decide….
[quote author=“rahulnirmal”]Then why would those guys put two eject buttons when one of them is very small and is rarely used!? They should have just put that one on the hinge!
So that there will be no accidental eject when you carry it, it happened to my S360 way back it snapped in half when I held it on its CDROM side.. So when I got my T250P still has the same problem but I was carefull, now the TX I don’t have to worry when I hold it on the sides.. IMHO Sony did a good job at it since it’s portable enough that People actually carries it. Now just don’t swing too much like a supermodel or else..
The only problem I have now is the stupid wifi antenna getting in the way that blocks the tray when ejecting. The stupid Cingular antenna is useless and annoying to me…what a waste.
Man, only just saw this thread and it got pretty heated.
I am in the process of upgrading to a TX from a T and the things that swayed me:
[list]Instant on AV - I can fast boot the TX into an AV mode and watch DVD’s, play CD’s view pics on a CD/DVD or memory stick, all without booting windows.
Slightly lighter, but also smaller footprint, and with at least equal if not slightly better battery life, and a slightly bigger screen.
