USB 2.0 Powered (no batteries required)
Comes with Wireless Keys to unlock the drive (for security reasons, the drive will be locked as soon as you unplug it from the USB cable and once you connect back to PC, wave the contacless key and it will unlock the drive)

Also comes with a BackUp Software.

Sony US is selling currently an 80 Gig version in Black (I have reviewed it earlier).

Well it’s good for laptops that can use an external mouse and onboard touchpad at the same time, I don’t see this as a hot seller for desktops.

As for the external HDD…go Sony, they woke up and dumped the AA’s (or were they AAAs?). I see a purchase in the future. I hope the original designers death was quick and painless…

Are the external HDDs 1.8” or 2.5”? ... I’m thinking likely 2.5” since sony seems to have an 80gb available already (1.8” 80gb toshiba hdds haven’t hit the market yet).  Also, it’d be interesting to know if these drives support OTG (on-the-go) technology, which makes it possible to connect and download from peripherals like digicams directly to the external hdd without a need for a computer ... something like this:

I have a 1.8” 40gb toshiba hdd from my tr3 that is sitting around.  I have not been able to find a decent enough enclosure.  Only ones out there are pretty much barebones without otg.  I guess I’ll have to wait a while longer until retailers start carrying them.

I just wanted to confirm that the 40 Gig Hard drive will be available in the US, in two colors. Look for it on SonyStyle.com at the end of January. Specs will be posted too.
My VAIO 80 Gig HD has been a great accessory, though it needs two AA batteries, it is a not an issue or bog deal for me. I also use my other VAIO hard drive that is i.Link powered by my X505.
