Hii
an update!!
I was asked to use reset buttom on the bottom of notebook.. and guess what?
I can see the Vaio Splash Screen coming up. Since the HDD is sent for Data Recivery it says no operating system found. but I think after fixing HDD it should work normally.
wish me a luck!!
by the way does anybody know what is the reset thingie for?

Oh well done, good stuff. I was beginning to feel a bit guilty for sitting here suggesting things, none of which worked.
No idea what the “reset” thing does, though I’ve looked at it myself and wondered. Will be interested to see if anyone comes up with anything.

may be to correct just the kind of problem anx had
that’s good news… since you weren’t getting to the OS stage, the HDD never really came into play so I guess the HDD was fine and everything should work..
keep us posted !

Rahul,
I suspected its HDD when 1st day I just saw blank screen with a blinking cursor and then I had to restore system
Also I remember trying to use a faulty extention Cord 4 days back which could have been a problem somewhere or may be it happened becuz I use hibernation most of the times?
I am eager to find why that reset fixed the issue…..

I don’t think this is the same problem… if you ask me, yours looks a bit like you’ve got a bad sector on the disk in a very unfortunate place (i.e. in a file Windows needs to start). I would think that re-installing Windows from the restore CDs would be your only option, if you really can’t get it to start up at all.

Guys…
There are two threads getting confused here, and it’s jiggy’s fault. anx’s problem that was fixed with the “reset” button was NOT a hard disk problem, and it was not related at all to the “cannot find OS” message that Jiggy was getting. The “reset” button, whatever it does, is not going to fix hard disk problems, and that message means a hard disk problem.
Jiggy’s hard disk thread is at .

Hunting around a bit on this forum I see [urlhttp://www.siliconpopculture.com/sonytr/viewtopic.php?t=4096[/url] (which I don’t believe much). There’s nothing in the manual about it. Google didn’t turn up much.
Well, that’s my research done - sorry for being completely useless…

Hi
I think the RESET button clears the CMOS. With usual desktops, you have to take out the battery from the motherboard to clear CMOS, or just put a jumper on two pins for a few seconds, but with laptops, you dont have access to the motherboard, nor the CMOS battery, hence the reset button.
I played with it on my C1, but unfortunately it didnt help my problem. I had a fried BIOS. But at that time I learned what the RESET button was for..
Glad it helped you though…
Ben

Does this mean it would remove a power-on password? Just thinking about it in reference to the stolen TR thread elsewhere here.
