Due to the new anti-spam restrictions I have to send my website’s emails through my ISP instead of my webspace host.  This is fine when I’m at home, but means when I’m visiting someone I can’t send any emails.

I can obviously continue to use my Hotmail account but I was just wondering if/how you guys deal with it.

If your ISP is filtering ports 25&110; beyond their POP, then

You can

1) Call them and bitch

2) Call and bitch again

3) call your webhost and ask them what their SSL ports for POP3/SMTP are and use that instead of your ISPs.

This is a very intrusive way to prevent zombie computers from relaying emails.

Doesn’t your ISP have a web-based email solution? My host allows me to check my e-mail via POP3 programs or I can log-in from any web browser and check my email via HTTP.

As for my hotmail account, I have a program that forwards the mail to a POP3 account that sends the mail to my Treo via POP3 program…and I set the reply address to my hotmail account so it’s a loop of sorts.

For some reason my host doesn’t have that option.  Serves me right for getting it on a whim.  I just assumed that they would all provide that.  I guess I’ll just wait out what I’ve paid for and switch :(
