Its been 4 years since I got a new computer, I use XP at work and I loved it…which tells you I am not anywhere knowlegble with computers..

My question is first time I start Word/Excel..I had to input this trial product key which came with my TR…and doing so it says I have 60 days to convert to full edition..and since then everytime I tried to use word/excel..it asks me for a convertion product key..and I thought it’s the little sticker underside of TR with codes..but everytime I enter it..it would says invalid key numbers!!

hmm..do I have a boogied TR?? It’s been only 5days or so..but I have no idea what should I do..

any help will be good.. :oops:  :? 

Where exactly did you get Office? AFAIK, it’s not bundled with the TR. In any case, the key you are trying to put in from the bottom of the TR is the Windows XP product key. That won’t work for Office.

I think that Office XP has to be activated to the full version either via the internet or by telephone.  You only have 50 launches of the software before it reverts to a downgraded version (essentially just a reader).  While you install the software you enter the PRODUCT key and then for activation you have to give Microsoft an instalation key which is basically an encrypted form of the product key and a hardware identifier to make sure that you only install it on one computer. (Although I think you can install Office on 2 computers.  One desktop and one laptop for your personal use).  After you give them the installation key they should give you a confirmation ID.  It’s a bunch of BS if you ask me.

I thought TR would come with 2003 Office as well…eh we paid such hefty price…and they can’t even give me a damn office??
so I guess if I want/need it I would have to buy it~

I guess it is a matter of perspectives.  I would definitely prefer a clean machine, no apps bundled, saving me some $$$ on stuff that I may not even use after all.  When I pay for hardware, I care about the hardware, and not “free” software (which as you well know, it is not free, you have already been charged in the total price).  I change laptops every year or so… You will not believe how many “licenses” of MS Works I own, even when I have never launched it!!!

I’d rather get a TR with a couple of full recovery DVDs, just plain OS and drivers, than a bunch of apps I never asked for in the first place.

I would make sure that the version of office that you have isn’t the full version that just needs to be activated.  If it is a legit copy and you already paid for the license the activation is free.  If not you can always use an older version of office. Or screw microsoft and just use this:

Us poor ripped off Brits don’t even get a trial version. However Microsoft do sell student editions of their software overhere, and you only have to take a child with you to qualify when you buy it. Definitely a good deal. We just bought the student teacher edition for £90 inside was a voucher for access for £18. OK still a lot of money but cheaper than the full blown price.
