Hi,
I am using a Windows XP Home Edition Sony Vaio laptop.(PCG-NV190) The problem just occurred couple days ago as I was listening to music and the LCD screen went black on me. The music was still playing but i couldn’t see anything.

I have tried the following:

Because i couldn’t see anything, i just turned my computer off and turn it back on. The “SONY” logo appeared(dimly) then a second or two later, the screen flashed 1 or 2 times and went black again. I noticed the screen wasn’t completely black. I can still see some things on the computer screen but they are very dim. I did install a few programs one day before the problem occurred. I am wondering if this is a software or hardward problem. (could it be my video card?)

ps: i did a system restore but still no help.

Could be your backlight or inverter has given up the ghost.

If you connect an external monitor and see the image, you’ve likely ruled out a software problem, which would point to this being a hardware problem.
