The uBid one is a genuine Sony battery, and the eBay one is just made by a random battery manufacturer.
I had a similar decision to make, made slightly easier by the fact that I couldn’t buy from uBid (being in the UK) and so the difference in price was much larger - IIRC $200 for a genuine one and $100 for an OEM one. I went for the OEM one from eBay (not from the same seller as you; I checked) and it’s turned out fine - I get about 5-6hrs from the battery and I’ve had it for a year.
You read a lot of horror stories about OEM batteries having ridiculously poor performance or damaging computers, but I think there’s a lot more smoke than there is fire. I’d look through a few of the guy’s past feedbacks and if they bought batteries and seem pleased, I’d go for the OEM one.
No doubt I’ll be shot down in flames by someone whose OEM battery set fire to their VAIO and molested their cat…
