For those who don’t know, Panasonic is well knowing for building very durable notebook computers. This 2.2lb system is equiped with a shock-mounted hard drive and is also spill resistant. Best of all (for me, anyways), is that the battery life can last 8 hours on a single charge.
This specific unit is a Panasonic CF-R3DW4AXP. It was imported from Japan by Dynamism and has undergone a full English conversion (OS and keyboard). These units are very rare here in the states, and it’s hard to beat Dynamism’s support (just send it back to them and they’ll deal with Panasonic Japan directly). Here are some specs (everything listed is onboard):
10” Bright XGA (1024x768) screen
2.2 lbs with battery
1.1GHz Intel Pentium-M Processor
512MB SDRAM (upgradable to 1GB)
Wireless B/G
60GB HDD
Windows XP Professional English
2 USB ports
56k modem and 10/100 LAN
VGA out
PCMCIA Port
SD Card Reader
I’d assume many of you would see that it’s only 1.1GHz and think that it’s outdated, but this is actually very speedy as far as subnotebooks go. It runs Photoshop and Vegas great, as well as getting pretty decent frames on Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat. I can’t imagine that this system couldn’t handle anything that you need it to. It even runs HL2, although it’s not very playable
The newest version of this system is only 100mhz faster and is $500 more than my asking price. I’m also including an Elecom ZeroShock case (research it… most durable and protective case I’ve ever seen), a Panasonic USB CD-RW, and I have all of the original boxes and pamphlets included with the system. The only flaw this system has are some light scratches on the battery (not on the unit itself).
I’ve only used this system for class here at the University of Washington. It’s been great with the 8 hour battery life (can make it through all of my classes, plus a few hours of studying at the library. If you are very light with the usage and turn the screen down and wireless off, you can get over 10 hours . However, that’s not too realistic . I’ve managed to watch a movie, a few tv episodes, take some notes in class, play a few rounds of half-life, then surf a few web pages while jamming out to iTunes before the battery went dead. I’d say it lasted about 6 hours under that kind of usage.
My asking price is $1400 + shipping. I urge you to research the system and its resale value… the cheapest I’ve seen the R3 was $1350 on a Japanese site. Factor in shipping, that it had a smaller HDD, Japanese OS, All-Japanese keyboard, and the inconvenience of purchasing from Japan, and mine is a much better deal :D
I have feedback on evolutionm.net, northwestnissans.com, and 50+ @ 100% on eBay as kensuke_fo_sho. I’ve also sold an X505 on here a while back, which went very smoothly. I just need monies for rent and tuition. Believe me, I’d be keeping this, otherwise. I may end up taking out student loans to buy another laptop next quarter, but I need to sell this to covery myself for now. Sorry about the blury pics. If you guys need better ones or want pics of anything specifically, let me know.
