As a relatively new owner of the TR series, I would like to purchase a carrying case which is stylist, but convenient, and has a shoulder strap if possible.
the absolute best thing is the http://www.timbuk2.com small messenger bag with the small laptop sleeve (comes with handle and closure/can be used without the messenger bag as a carry case). no one knows u have a computer and they are very sturdy/waterproof/etc. i can upload a picture if needed but not today, working on a problem with the chief of police… http://www.siliconpopculture.com/sonytr/viewtopic.php?p=47080#47080
I hope you made the Chief happy, we dont want high ranking officials to be mad at us, right? :D
I like the case you showed, however I am looking for an OEM case, or at least something that is the exact size of the laptop, meaning that I am looking for a case that is not bigger than the laptop itself. I have nice cases but all for 15” screens, and one for my Picturebook, which is too small.
Is there any possibilities? I would also prefer having a shoulder strap.

a bag no bigger then the laptop itself? that would be a ziplock baggie? see this page: http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/retail/catalog.htm?categoryId=21 . it’s the remake of the sleeve that i have that fits the TR to a t. with just enough room at the top to throw in a travel mouse. i put mine in a ziplock baggie when it’s wet outside. anyway, you can’t beat the quality of these bag guys…but a bit pricey. good luck.
I actually have one of these Sony Cases (PCGA-CK5T )brand new in the box. I returned my TR5 beofre it arrived from Japan. If anyone wants it I will let it go for cheap. I think it sell for 70$. You can have it for 50$ shipped free if in the U.S. PM me or reply here if interested. I had one for my TR1 before I sold it and it is simpy the best semi hard case for protection (made by Sony for the TR, of course). Never had a ding or scratch using it. Helps resale value.
I bought a samsonite backpack for my TR.
I was looking for something which is same size as the noti and I can use it for business and leisure.
Legtobb samsonite boltban kaphato. Legalso kep
Thanks for the replies. The CK5T sure looks good, but I would like something that fits a charger in a pocket, and hopefuly a shoulder strap.
The backpack is very nice indeed. i will check the Samsonite store here in Budapest, to see if I can find one, and how much I like it in person. I would still prefer a Small Vaio branded shoulder strapped bag.
By the way, are you a Hungarian in Tokyo, or a Japanese who speaks Hungarian? Watashi wa Hangarii jin desu, demo sukoshi Nihongo ga wakarimasu. Tsuma wa Nihonjin desu.
With a cover flap, and the “piggyback” accessories bag (clips into the rings for the carry strap) for when I travel. It works great and protects the laptop well. The case is very well constructed.
My only complaint is the lack of a carry handle on the top of the case for when I’m getting into/out of the car… Using the full length shoulder strap tends to end with me cursing as the notebook smacks into center console… But then again, I’m a klutz.
That is an option as well, however I still havent gotten what I am looking for. There is one that exactly matches my expectations, but it is unfortunately 1/3 of what the laptop costs. That is unacceptable. The bag is made by Porter Japan, and it fits the TR exactly. THe price is around 300 USD, but in Japan it is a bit less, like 250USD. Still more than double what I would pay for it.
I’m a case fanatic and have found what I consider to be the best bag for the TR. It’s available from Hammacher Schlemmer at:
The TR fits on the inside with room enough for a book, notebook or other stuff. The front pockets can hold your cell phone or MP3 player. Inside pockets also have room for the TR’s power supply, a mouse, CDs, etc. The leather is absolutely top quality and soft as a chamois. There is enough padding to protect the computer from all but the most brutal drops and knocks. It is light weight and small enough to easily sling over your shoulder without a problem.
Strongly recommended. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but well worth the investment.
Of course it doesn’t have a shoulder strap, nor will it protect your TR from the elements, but I’ve had my eye on this notebook suit from Vaja Cases for some time now. Although you can’t argue with the custom-made quality and attention to detail, it is PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE.
Don’t overlook the many cases designed for DVD players. I use a Samsonite designed for 12” DVD players. You can find many options anywhere, once you look in the “other” aisle.
You mean the cases designed for Portable DVD players? Those would work I assume. I have been to a Samsonite shop here in Budapest, and from the 100:s of bags they had, I could only see one which would fit it by the size, and it wasnt padded at all, hence I scared away from purchasing it.
I guess I better look at the Samsonite website, and see if they have any specific model which would match. THe only problem is that there is the perfect case by Porter, just the price is too high. But when I compare anything to it, nothing gets even close…
