Tutorial on how to get it done can be found below a few posts, link included.
note: Please note, that after installing Widcomm stack, you will not be able to see any devices from the My Bluetooth Places. I dont know why that is. Bluetooth works fine with pairing from other applications, or initiating the pairing from the other device, but from the laptop it will not see anything else out there. Be aware. For me, its still worthed, as all I need it for is to pair with my Phone, and it does a great job with that. Just be aware!!
Dear members,
I have been running around in circles to get this thing going, but I just cannot seem to get there. I have read all topics on this forum that had Widcomm mentioned in it, but stil no go. I believe that there was a site by a Joe somebody, which is now deleted due to some leagal reasons.
The reason I want to get Widcomm, is because that is known to work with Gnubox, which is a Symbian app for my 6680 Nokia, and with that I can share my internet via BT to the phone.
I downloaded many Widcomm stacks, I tried numerous patches, numerous inf files, I have booted into Safe mode and replaced files, but still no solution. If someone would point me the right direction, and I get it done, I will surely type up a tutorial on how to get it done, and post on my site.
Thanks
Ben

Hi
I have finally gotten it working. I found a BTWUSB.inf file that Joe created back when he had it on his site, and with that, i was able to install the Widcomm drivers for the laptop. However, I am still having the problem of the same kind with the phone, and now I see what is the problem. The Even Viewer shows errors with some COM port issues and Network Protocol thingy. I will have to further investigate, but I will write the tutorial up anyways on how to get Widcomm working with TR series.
Thanks
Ben

Hi
I now have norrowed the problem down, and I can see it isnt a matter of what stack I use, but with the hardware, or some compatibility issue, or some confusion among other hardware.
I checked the Event logs, and I can see, that the same error was appearing when I used the Microsoft stack, and when I use the WIdcomm stack.
THe errors are as follow. They are found in the System log of the Even Viewer.
First, this shows up:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 11/10/2005
Time: 12:05:37 PM
User: N/A
Computer: BFRANK-VAIO
Description:
The Bluetooth Serial Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
Right after that, I see another one, like this:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 11/10/2005
Time: 12:05:37 PM
User: N/A
Computer: BFRANK-VAIO
Description:
The Bluetooth Port Client Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
What are my options? Could some of you please check if you have this right after boot on your TR`s? THat would be a big help. I dont know what to do. It will not show other errors, except if I try to connect with the phone via dial up access (Gnubox), and then the error is like this:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: RemoteAccess
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20050
Date: 11/9/2005
Time: 9:41:00 PM
User: N/A
Computer: BFRANK-VAIO
Description:
The user <Unauthenticated User> connected to port COM7 has been disconnected because no network protocols were successfully negotiatated.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
DO you guys have any idea?
Thanks,
Ben

Hi
I have finally gotten everything settled, well sort of. I investigated in the Registry, and the interface that was unable to be added was the firewire adapter, so I disabled it, rebooted, and it works now. I am able to dial into the box virtualy with the GnuBox, and the Incoming connection will give an IP to the phone, etc. All works now. I will make a tutorial soon, and post the link for future reference.

Hi
I am glad it works for you as well. THat is another success story then. I had quite a hard time to get it going, I hope its easier now with the tutorial.
I hope it will work for more people as well, I really think Widcomm has more to offer than BLuesoil and the MS stack obviously.

Hi
You are most welcome, I am glad it worked out for you as well. It seems the method will mostly work for all TR users then…
Take care,
Ben

I successfully installed the Widcomm drivers using your guide on my TR5.
Nokia PC Suite detects my phone and connects.
But I was expecting a benefit of Widcomm would be the ability to use my Nokia bluetooth headset with my TR5.
I was wrong or doing something wrong?
In fact if I go to “My bluetooth devices” with Widcomm no devices are found (even though the phone is connected). If I restore to before Widcomm both my phone and headset are listed although obviously the headset is not supported by Microsoft.

I also just installed the widcomm stack onto my S270, everything worked fine once I changed the id from 3003 to 3007. I am now having a problem where I cannot look at my devices under my bluetooth places. When I select any option such as view devices in a range or search new, I get an error saying no local bluetooth devices found. If I select modify my settings it goes right to the setup section and within there everything appears to be woorking fine. The device also shows up correctly under the hardware tab. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Darek

So did you have to revert back to the MS stack?
Thanks,

No disrespect to the guide - Great work.
But I had no discoverable or detected devices with Widcomm in “My Bluetooth Places” although Nokia PC Suite could successfully conect with my phone using Widcomm?
In Device manager my Bluetooth USB was “Working Properly”.
I reverted back to Bluespace/Microsoft with system restore.

I had to revert back also but I turned off system restore, since I had just recently got Acronis True Image. When I restored however I did not restore the bth* files into the windows/inf folder so I had to restore those files manaully. Hey groovy if you know something I dont know about Acronis not restoring fully, please let me know. I think I may just go ahead and get myself a 2.0 modual and see how that works with my system. We know groove has got it to work, plus 2.0 is better anyhow.
Thanks,
Darek

Hi
Sorry about that, I wasnt aware of that, as I only use it to connect to my Nokia for using internet over BT> I didnt see the error you guys are getting, but will check it out. FOr one thing I know that from my phone I can discover the laptop. I dont know why Widcomm wouldnt work with the My BLuetooth places feature on this particular unit.
If you want to go back to the Microsoft stack, you should just rename those files back to what they were, and uninstall the Widcomm drivers, remove the btwusb.inf, so it cannot be discovered, restart, and it should install itself back.
I hope this solves your issue,
Ben
EDIT: I now confirmed that it is the same for my laptop as well, when I go to My bluetooth places, it will not recognize any bluetooth local device. It thinks for some reason that the Bluetooth device is not there, even though we know it is, as it works flawlessly with other services. That is one weird problem. If I get something on that, I will notify you. If you get something, please post away. Meantime, I will post a note on the beginning of the thread, so that others can know it before installing it.
Ben

Hi guys,
Just to be on the safe side, I did a revert back to the MS stack myself, so I could document it. I will include it on my site as well, but here is the first draft to get start with…
If you are unsatisfied with the Widcomm drivers and how it behaves approach as follows.
In device manager right click the SOny BLuetooth Devivce, and Uninstall it. When that is done, uninstall the Widcomm Bluetooth Package from the COntrol Panel, Add remove programs section. When it asks for restart, refuse. Now, look for the Widcomm install files, for me they were under C:\Widcomm or similar to that. Delete them all. Make a search for btwusb.inf file, and if you dont find any, it is fine, if you do, delete it. Go back to the System/inf folder, and rename the Two files back to their original state.
Now reboot, and when the machine comes back up, it will install the MS stack. Takes 5 mintues for the whole procedure.
Hope this helps the ones who doesnt like the Widcomm stack after all…
Ben
