On recent Sony Vaio laptops does the recovery software still come on CD’s?

I heard that they now have it on a partition on the hard drive.

It should be all in DVD format; but they don’t come bundled with the notebook. You will have to order them from Sony DAPC if you are in the States.

Yes, that is right. Thus, you can create your own Recovery CD/DVD accordingly.
