I have been testing a pilot 3G network in the UK (not “three”, another one) and the data rates are pretty good: 200-300kbps sustained either via bluetooth or datacard.
it seems that if the tarrifs are competitive enough, I’d happily use 3G for *general* browsing and email when out and about, and only use wifi when at a fixed location for some time… like at work/home OR if I need to send/receive a large file from a hotspot.
defaulting back to GPRS when roaming abroad (in the US for instance) is a fair compromise.
all-in-all the ability to get 200kbps on a train is very cool.
