Just unlocked my TX last night.  It took about 3 support calls to finally find the one guy willing to poke around enough to find how to lookup the codes.  If anyone wants to unlock the TX remember to tell the rep to look at the T350 area to run the correct program.  2 other guys told me the TX unlocking codes did not exist yet because it’s so new. 

Anyhow I’m glad I have the TX and have it working with my TMobile account.  The EDGE network is nice to fall back on when traveling around and don’t have a hotspot to worry about.  I got 169kbps here at my home office which isn’t that bad.  I’m way out in the country too.

Well just thought I would let everyone know the TX is unlockable and works fine with TMobile EDGE network.  :D

What is the cost of unlimited data with TMobile as opposed to Cingular?
Or was it cheaper because you have cell service with T already?

I am with verizon but really want to try out the edge network with the TX. Not sure I can justify it though.

Any other networks it will work on other than Tmobile and Cingular?

If you have a phone plan it is only 19.99 extra for unlimited GPRS/EDGE however it’s such a pain to have to keep switching the SIM card out of the TX and into the phone all the time so I’m going to just pay the $29.99 extra for a seperate plan with unlimited GPRS/EDGE and keep my normal phone plan.  That way i have a SIM card in my TX and a seperate one for my phone.

I downloaded a few times today and got anywhere from 19KB - 25KB / second which is great!

That sounds great compared to the Cingular plan. Do they share the edge network or do they both have their own? I am thinking of coverage issues.

I’ve never “unlocked” a phone or sim card. I would be a new Tmobile customer with data only, no phone plan. Any pointers or a specific department I should ask for to make this easier?

I have not seen any T-Mobile EDGE coverage maps yet so you will have to call TMobile and ask if EDGE is in your area.  The nice thing is if EDGE is not in your area you will most likely still get GPRS digital signal.  So instead of 20KB/sec it will be much slower download speeds.

EDGE speeds are between 100-130 kbps but capable of speeds up to 216 kbps which are up to 3 times faster than GPRS.  I’m consistently getting around 169kbps in northern Colorado.

Be sure to tell the customer support person about this KB article that it is under the T350 model because they are clueless.

It seems as if T-Mobile is now not any better than the others for data.
Sadly, Cingular’s internet only plans changed as of 11/07.
Currently the only interent only plan they offer is $49.99.  This price does includes unlimited wifi at their hotspots, but why would you need it? The only advantage may be one of a slight speed increase, but I’m not willing to pay for that.
I asked about adding internet to an existing plan and was told it was $19.99 (or was it 29.99…not sure now)

They did say that they grandfathered in everyone on the old pricing.
