for camera on a new installation of windows
go to device manager—>Universal Serial Bus Controller, you should find 4 usb root hubs, check the power option on each hub and find out the one with camera attached, then uncheck “allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” on the power management of that hub

also you may switch off the camera from vaio power managment, I have it always switch off on AC and battery power, only turn it on when I use it. I think this can “prolong” it’s lifetime as it’s alway on “off” status. The camera on mine last 1 year 3 months now.

if you need, i have all the lastest utilities for TR series, just list the ones you want, and i will upload them on rapidshare.

Can you please explain why to do that with the Camera’s power saving?

The latest Apps, and Drivers, I would pretty much want all. I dont know what is the different of what I have and what I can have…

I would like to upgrade to whatever I can of course, if it makes a difference. So far I installed the Apps you refered me to, on the FTP site, at the beginning of the thread. i installed Network Capture, and Utils (power, etc). I didnt install the Bluetooth app. What does it do?

I have the Microsoft BLuetooth drivers by default with XP2, and that seems to be fine for me.

I remember it fix a problem with camera malfunction out of standby.
as for bluetooth, if you want to use headsets, you have to apply the patch, if not, then it’s ok to stick with sp2 bt stack

Thanks again for the updates. The Launcher does look great, good one there..

I noticed something on my laptop. The keyboard feels funny around the center, as if it isnt fixed to the cage of the machine. What I mean, is that it feels as if “air” went under it… Also right above the touchpad, where there is a little bridge of plastic going between the Touchpad and the keyboard, if I press on that, it will go down a few mm’s, and when released, comes back up. This makes it a bit funny. I checked the screws on the bottom, the ones seen, and I made sure all of them were tight, and they were. Would the laptop be missing some screws from under the keyboard, or this is just how these series are?

I am satisfied how it is set up software wise by the way. Now, having installed all the shared libraries, and apps, I have everything working including the HotKeys on the screen, etc. I realized that I cannot delete all entries from the registry under /softwares/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run because the hotkeys wont start up automatically. But all other sony junk I removed, so now my machine boots in an instance.

One more thing. The battery indicator will show 100%(charging) state forever, even after that the LED on the botton of the machine will stop blinking, indicating that the battery is charged. Why would that be? I tried with, and without the Sony power management.

don’t worry about the keyboard, it’s designed this way to let air circulate more quickly.

same here, mine shows “charging” when completely charged, while the charging circuit is indeed cut off, no complaint here.

Sorry for the earlier post, I forgot to log in. That was my first post from the Vail.

So to rephrase myself, I am looking to get the original DVD burning app, and DVD editing, I mean DV editing app that came with the laptop. I dont want to install the Japanese ones.

ANother question:

I am a freak of having as less things starting up as possible. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I found my PCs run pretty fast when almost nothing is loaded at startup. THings I specially look out for are such as: Winamp`s startup, Quicktime, Roxio Drag and drop, etc. These tend to make things slower. Now, my real question is in regard to the Power Panel. I also installed it to begin with but I realized it had to be loaded on start separately, meaning it was in the registry bound to start, and eat itself to the memory…:( Maybe I should stop worrying having things in the memory, once I have 512MB, which is plentiful.. WEll well. Is Powerpanel absolutely necessary? WHat do I gain by having it? I alrteady compromised my hate for startups with the LAN switcher, which is pretty handy turning off the Bluetooth only, leaving Wireless 802.11 on.

Got DVGate from the FTP you supplied,just I had to work my way through it, as lots of them were updates only.

THis is the one that work, and it also has all the libraries that needs to be installed prior to get DVgate working.

Seems it was not a piece of cake, reminds me to my gentoo installation on the X505. ㄱ_ㄱ
Unfortunately I also have to go through this as I am giving the TR5 to sis for christmas and she can not read Korean.

I hope this thread can help you, I now got everything working on my laptop, and if time permits, I will put a tutorial together how I got there.

Things I had problem with for example is that I installed a US OP system, but I wanted to get the Japanese layout to work, and for that I had to reinstall the Keyboard driver, just adding the language didnt do it… But finally, as I said, all works fine for me, I still have to finish my battle with the bluetooth, but it seems bright after all.
