I guess it’s time to face reality.

I won this ebay auction: 

I sent payment in January and never got the drive. He has decent feedback so I never thought it would be a problem.

Feb. 10th he said he forgot to send out the item but it was going out right away. Today is March 1st and still no drive. I’ve e-mailed and called him…no reply.

I filed a fraud complaint with Ebay and the FBI…ebay says I sould get $175 of my $200 payment back…so hopefully it’s not a total loss.

Just wanted to let people know incase he runs auctions again. I am not going to leave feedback just yet…I want to see if he will contact me now that I filed the complaints.

I really looked forward to doing this mod…now my attention will focus on Sony and getting a replacement DVD+-RW drive.

That sucks. Sorry Erik…hopefully you’ll get most of your money back. I’m still surprised they managed to fit a regular 12.5mm drive into the TR. The DW-U50A is a 12.5mm device and is the same one found in the GRT series of notebooks.

Perhaps you could find a source for a GRT “replacement” part and just buy it directly.

I’m puzzled that they supposedly fit a 12.5mm drive into the system. I have one laying around (slot loading though) that I might try to fit in just to see if it’s possible. If it is then we all won’t have to worry about trying to find the smaller 9.5mm drive (aka the Panasonic one )...

That would be cool…if it fits then we have the part, we just need to find a supply. The other DW-U50a’s i’ve seen haven’t matched the TR body color, this one seemed to…
