Thank you for your replies. As a result, I understand the situation now. Groovy was kind enough to reply via email and explain the current situation too.
I have obtained a 150GB external USB drive and it is working fine.
I have the Toshiba 40GB 4200 rpm drive currently and, of course I will try to go to the 1.8” Toshiba 80GB 4200 rpm drive when it is released to end users.
I am not down on Sony at all. I am pro Sony because they make great stuff. However, I do believe based on my experiences that communicating with Sony tech support on any issue they have decided not to support (and there apparently are a lot of them) is like talking to a retarded robot.
But that’s just my opinion. Sony makes great stuff. Peace and thanks all of you for helping me understand the current state of affairs with the Sony Vaio hard drives.
