the nano is definitely a hit selling over a million in less than a month, but hell, that’s crazy.  i can’t even fathom a million being recalled.  kinda reminds me of the shoe sales person in elizabethantown….

I put one of these on mine. It’s far from perfect, but there are now no visible scratches on my nano. When I wiped off the device with the microfiber cloth I use for my glasses before the film application, it did actually leave streaks in the direction I wiped that I could not get off by rubbing at a 90 degree angle (although with minimal pressure) so the scracting with a microfiber cloth stories are true. I probably wouldn’t have seen the scratches at all if I had a white one and the texture of the film hides it so you’d never notice.

I did get a kick out of this comment, though:

Not only are nanos susceptible to being shoved in a coin & key filled pocket and sat on, but aluminum PowerBooks are susceptible to damage from nails that are pounded clear through the case, and I have noticed that Apple’s install DVDs are much more flammable than their competitors’. For shame.

My nano is also scratched despite my attempts to baby it. I too suspect that my microfibre cloth scratched the device. This is the same cloth I use to clean my NW-E507 which also has a polycarbonate shell that is noticeably more scratch resistant.

I guess one of the arguments would be that the iPod nano is marketed as the “iPod you can stick in your coin pocket” which you really can’t do since you run the risk of scratching it or possibly cracking the screen.

my rh-10 has the same problem.  i use the cool cloth it comes with, and now i have these shallow scratches… hella shallow barely noticable, but with the right lighting…  :?

ipoders are notorious for being finiky about scratches, just as TR world folks are about battery cycles and hdd temps. See http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=124521&highlight=scratches for some examples.

I just finished reading John Grisham’s King of Tortes, so it’s a real hoot to read about friviolous class action suits. I am not a fan of the american legal system in the cases of mass torts, so i am not surprised that some attorney thinks they can win this.  But perhaps if some idiot is trying to see his playlist while driving 90 down the I-5 and smacks into a guard rail, he can sue apple because of a scratched / rainbowed screen.  In Cali, he may get 5 million, who knows.

Does anybody really give a toss after a while?
