Are you looking to upgrade your TR series’ BT module? I am currently awaiting delivery of TX series service manual - will provide the necessary part number shortly.

ALPS Electric has finally released a BT Module design sheet for their new Version 2.0+EDR compliant UGPZ6 chip.—> click here for the pdf. sheet.

With that info sheet as reference, I don’t think we can just install the chip in place and expect it to work. A new set of drivers may be needed to get it to work with our TRx notebooks—> perhaps a new ALPS Bluetooth Driver and possibly the Bluetooth Stack Driver by Toshiba (available from Sony USA; but not accessible by our TRx notebooks)

I am not familiar with the drivers outlined above and hope that TX or other users alike can shed some light about this upgrade. Thanks.

As for installation and getting it to work, I am pretty sure we need to install the “Bluetooth Stack Driver by Toshiba” (it’s about 155mb) found in Sony USA’s VAIO TX update/support site.

Just as Ishii, I also think its very likely that it is possible to upgrade the TR (and all other UPGZ equiped laptops) to Bluetooth V2.0

They are using the BC4 from CSR as the bluetooth chip in UGPZ6.

As you can see the Z3 and the Z6 looks very similar, especially the white connectors.

When looking carefully you can see that both modules have ground connecton in the upper left, and lower right corner of the white connector.

It is also a thicker wire to the lower left corner of the connector, this is probably the power-line from the computer.

Who will be the first with BT V2.0 in their TR’s? 

FCC have some more information about the module,  but not much of real use. Search for Product Code “UGPZ6” and you will find the documents.

I will install BT moudule and bluesoleil software..(I have a patch)

UGPZ3 and UGPZ6 are the same perfectly..

I think it’s required because it’s the original Bluetooth driver and profiles installed in all TX series. But of course, I am not completely certain; and I would prefer the original set of drivers rather than going with the patch route.

As I’ve mentioned in the preceding posts, I will definitely post the part number for the UGPZ6 BT module once I received the TX series’ service manual from Sony DAPC.  :wink:

I have that Bluetoooth Stack for Sony by Toshiba (stripped from BIOS check or whatever it is) and we need to confirm that it is something really needed for the BT 2.0 to work well or find out that any other stack will also work. I doubt I can email it to folks here who are thinking of upgrading because it is a hefty installer file. I do not have FTP either, so anybody willing to assist with it let me know. I’ll be happy to upload it.

Ye it can be installed on any VAIO with the BT 2.0 upgrade.
