other than the smartwi stuff, any differences between the 2 and 3 series T models…i’m now considering just going this route since the drawbacks of the TX and S are too great for me…willing to settle for the smaller screen and lower performance to gain battery and quite/cool running…
what i wanted to ask is are they basically the same w/ regard to heat and noise (2 to 3 series)...and do they both run COOL and QUIET ?
i can pick up a T340P for around $1750 (DVD ROM) and a T250P for $1900(DVD burner)...don’t really need the dvd burner or the smartwi, so if the T340P doesn’t get hotter or run louder.
Thanks…
Chris

Thanks guys…
So, you got the Costco deal for $1450 ?
They still have that, but I was a little concerned about the third-party refurb…are you happy w/ the condition of the product, does it seem new for the most part (physical condition) ?
Oh, one more, does the T240 have Bluetooth ?

Sorry to misinform you.
350 has dual layer burner the 250 doesn’t
it is a huge advantage for me.

no, you were right…i’m looking at the 340, not the 350…350 has the dvd burner, 340 is only a cd burner/dvd rom…
thanks though…
i’m really leaning toward this costco deal, T240P shipped for under $1600 w/ a 6 month return warranty…i was leary of it at first, but wasn’t aware of their return policy…if it turns out to be a lemon, it’ll show up w/in 6 months I’d imagine…

It isn’t that good of a deal.
Shop around.

i’ve shopped til i’ve dropped for the last week…if you can find something for less please post a link…
preferrably not ebay, but i doubt you’ll find anything there either, i’ve looked…the ones that are less, i’m not going to deal w/ b/c of their feedback…
i’ve been to costco, ebay, sonystyle, froogle, pricegrabber, nextag, all the PC review sites that also link out to pricing, ecost, ebuyer, technoweb, mwave, newegg, zipzoomfly…also all the big retailers, no deals or rebates currently on any T models…
I’ve found the following…cheapest prices on anything out there that I can find…all other specs are the same between these, difference listed at the right…
costco t240p $1450 cdrw
buy.com t340p $1740 cdrw (new)
buy.com t240p $1900 cdrw (new)
sony smb T250p $1900 dvdrw (new)
found similar prices on a couple of these at ebuyer and techonweb, but not significantly different…
any suggestions ? ? ?
Chris

thanks for the response on the costco experience…sounds like about the best option i have at this point. i don’t have a costco in my area, so it’ll be an online purchase…it’ll cost me the $1450 +$45 membership fee, plus shipping and any taxes they might apply (Virginia), if any…so I expect it’ll still be under $1600 shipped…so not bad IMO…
you guys have been super helpful…thanks for being a sounding board and for your time…

yea, not to hip on the TX given some of the recent reviews and comments from the folks that are trying them out…not going that route until someone posts a good review…maybe next year w/ the second generation model…
probably not going to consider the T250 now, sony SMB is already out of them…none showing today…and NICE and MPSUPER don’t check out too well, lots of complaints, typical NY city gray market and import dealer…the VAIO might be legit, shows US warranty, but not willing to deal w/ a company like this for a few bucks…
I ghost over firewire, so not much need for a DVDRW for OS backup…and I burn all my video at home where I’ve got HD speed and processing power…
I only need this for email, surfing, office software, and visual studio/sql server development on the road…and offloading my dig camera now and then…

Get the Costco deal, worst case you return it if a better deal shows up.

yes, that was one of my initial questions w/ this thread…i’m assuming from the first couple of responses that I got that there isn’t a significant difference across the T models, and from other TX related reviews here, the fan and heat on it are pretty significant…that’s why I’m going w/ a T for now…
it’ll be interesting to see how I like it…I had an old N505VE that I loved…and I’ve since moved to the R505GCP back in 2003 that has been good, but has always been a little big (especially w/ the dock) for my typical use…and it gets a little hot on the palm rest after awhile…noise is minimal, but every now and then, some minor fan hum…
anyway…the processing power and HD speed concern me, but for 90% of what i do, even my R505 has always handled it well, and it’s pretty much the same power as the T…1.2ghz (P3 though) and the original 4200rpm drive was fine, my 5400rpm upgrade helped a good bit w/ boot times and long database processes and application compiles…but I can live w/ those being slower to get back my portability/low-weight and gain battery life I’ve never had…
we shall see, costco order tonight or tomorrow if I get time…

My Frys In Burbank has T350/L for 1699 - 100 Rebate. I am sure you can knock another 100 for the display model. If you have someone to get it for you, you might be better off.
