Anyone have a real life experience with those?

We will be replacing ~30 desktops in our accounting department and I need to change their servers and workstations with something “acceptable”.

We’ve ruled out Dell, since their warranty technicians are clueless and we have to take care of most hardware issues anyways.

I haven’t put together an x2 system yet, and I want to know if anyone can share their impressions with those new AMDs.

What’s your accounting department doing that they need SMP-capable workstations?

It is accounting/HR. They have their own set of nonsense. The requirement is “the latest and the greatest”. I am not arguing this one over, since the COO is banging the head of HR.

Not to mention that they are control freaks… Have their own servers and believe that if they lock them noone will have access….

Yep. Finance-centric people are the bane of IT people, particularly when they hold the ear of the president/chairman/CEO. A little (outdated) knowledge in the wrong hands is horrendously inefficient and expensive.

I haven’t worked with the dual-core chips yet, but I’ve found Opterons, even with the nVidia chipsets, to be very stable.
