Wow, that’s pretty good. Where did you buy the Travelstar 7K100? I’m trying to get my hands on a Seagate Momentus 7200.1 100GB model.
My current 5400RPM 100GB Seagate Momentus gets:
Max: 40.3 MB/s
Min: 19.7 MB/s
Avg: 31.7 MB/s
Burst: 83.0 MB/s
Random Access: 16.5ms
CPU utilization: 5.9%
Specs almost the same except for 1.7GHz Dothan.
So, obviously slower since it’s a 5400RPM drive. You average of more than 10MB/s faster performance is definitely intriguing. I’m wondering what the difference in power consumption is as this Momentus drive does seem to be about as efficient as a 4200RPM drive. Seagate’s claim is that their 7200RPM model uses power like a 5400RPM drive which wouldn’t be too shabby.
