I’m trying to fill in an application form which I’ve downloaded in .doc format.
When putting Mr for my title I get this

The M and r separate to opposite ends of the table cell and when the cursor is on it there is the thick blue line underneath.  Nothing I do seems to affect this to make it normal and I can’t find anything about it in the help or online so it’s to the wisdom of Sony TR World I turn my plight!!

It’s the .doc downloadable from this site.  It’s not important as I managed to fudge it to make it look alright but it just bugs me what was causing it!

Doesnt that kinda crap just bug the sh*t out of u - it does me! the fix was easy this time though, just uncheck the “fit text” to cell option and all is well:

For all formatting problems, the first step is to reveal formatting and check the properties of everything….

Ps. If anyone else needs Word/Office advice and your company can pay, I’m for hire.  I’ve worked MS, IBM, and other big acronyms as software developer but now retired/broke and living in Nepal.  Thanks!

Still strange that I couldn’t find any help about what the blue line meant though… Just as well I have complete (almost) faith in this forum 8)

Funny how TR junkies know useless things like how to monitor TR battery cycles but for everyday things like Word they are in the dark.  Reveal formatting is one of the important task pane clicks like “Help” and “New Document.” Very useful for debugging formatting.

But you are right, the cell option “fit text” seems to be undocumented in the Microsoft Online help for office.  The blue line is just the indicator that text has been “stretched.”  This is a useful feature actually for table gurus.  Whoever created that doc must have checked it by accident.

Okay, back to measuring battery cycles….
