[quote author=“BleedingEdgeVaio”]First of all—Many Thanks to Anh Nguyen for leading us through the darkness.
Using Anh’s instructions, I disassembled and reassembled my X505 with no broken snaps or other damage. To upgrade the hard drive I ordered a Toshiba MK3006GAL from Memorylabs.com (it’s a replacement for some model iPod). I booted EZ-Gig II (from Drivesolutions or Apricorn) from a USB CD drive, then, I “cloned” the internal drive to an external USB drive. Then, I unplugged the old 20 GB drive and plugged in the new, empty, 30 GB one. Booting up again from the EZ-Gig CD, I used EZ-Gig II a second time to clone the external drive to the newly installed internal 30 GB drive.
Originally, I was going to put the new drive into an external USB box for cloning, but I couldn’t find one that would accept the Toshiba 1.8” drive, so I just used a spare USB external hard drive as the intermediate clone. Everything worked easily with no problems, and the machine booted up perfectly with the new drive. Now, if we could just speed up the CPU….
Did the battery life decrease after the change?
