New TR3A user joining the boards!

Alright so my TR3A laptop is coming in the mail to me and I’m very excited
I have a few questions from some of the more experienced users here about the ways to go about upgrading the laptop, especially with the ram.  Can any ram be used as long as its a 2100 soDIMM? (or does it need to be specific Sony ram…)  Also is it fairly easy to acquire downloads for the eye cam and other special features on the laptop if a copy of xp pro is installed?
Also I’m interested in finding that soft case for it…

Hard-drive and Bluetooth stuff will come when it can~

you don’t have to use sony specific memory
there’re several different cases, semi-hard, soft and other external ones.  i’m not sure, but i think there’s a topic in the TR section that explains how to upgrade the OS

No, the link you provided lists the wrong RAM for your TR. You will need to get this one .
They used to sell it for $49, then they listed it for 115 and now a bit cheaper.

Yes, Double Data SDRAM.

ok! So i recieved my TR3a with joy and excitment… only to have the hard-drive fail on me an hour into running it…  It happens to have a Hitachi DK13FA-40 hard drive…  all it doesn’t now is loudly click..  anyone have info/links on a possible better drive to replace this with? ~_~

you have to replace it with the same hitachi unless you can change the connector interface. 

i believe the hitachi has a male end connector while

the toshib has a female end connector.  i’m not sure, but i know one is one way.

checking out the nowdirect.com site there seem to be several options for the 1.8” hard-drives. 

Hitachi 08K1393 - 40 gig
Hitachi 08K1530 - 40 gig
Hitachi 08K1529 - 60 gig

I’ve read a lot about the Hitachi 08K1393 failing so I wonder if this other 40 gig is a newer model?  It also seems that the 60 gig also fits in the TR laptops.  Can anyone confirm these things for me?
