[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”]Simply download and unzip into the root directory of your corresponding device. You can use any text editor to edit the autorun.inf file to change the labels to your liking or to use an alternative set of icons.
It should unpack files in the following manner:
\autorun.inf
\ICON\name_of_device.ico
I’m not sure I am completely able to follow these instructions. Is there an even more comprehensive way to explain?
Basically, just open My Computer and then double-click the device you want to put the icons in, for example your iPod. The name will probably indicate what it is, but if you’re unsure, just disconnect the device and whatever device disappears is the one you want. Open up the device (it will probably have folder icons in it) and just drag the folder with the icon file (called ICON) and the .inf file (looks like a notepad) into the window from whatever zip utility you use. Don’t drag them INTO any folders inside the iPod, they should both be visible alongside the existing folders. Disconnect the device, reconnect, et voila.
Well I finally got around to trying this little bit of neatness.
Had it all working fine for my USB key on my own PC but have just tried it on a computer at my course and it only works when you log in. If you unplug and replug the key it comes up with no icon and the default name.
Any suggestions for why this is?
It’s a brand new XP pro SP1 instal (as in just done this morning) if that’s any help…
I have tried moving the icon around, changing the syntax etc but can’t get it to show up. The broken icon image is appearing for the drive so i know the autorun is affecting it i just can’t get it to use the icon.
EDIT: got it working. Or rather didn’t because i didn’t change anthing, must have held my mouth a different way when plugging in or something because it works now
Sorry for the silly question but what settings do you use when saving the png from PS? I have tried 128 X 128 and set at 72dpi but my ico’s out of the ave program seem to be lower quality than the ones you guys made.

Edit the inf file. (just double-click and it opens in notepad) Edit the line that starts with “icon=” and change the name of the file to the black nano icon.
