[quote author=“TruthSeeker”][quote author=“tifosiv122”]For the life of me I can’t find the original flash thread…if someone wants to find it and post there, I’ll move this post. This is a PRO-Flash article…

Great article, Erik. A little short, but I am glad to see anyone joining me on my lonely island. I know this thread started a year ago, but does anyone feel different about flash becoming more popular as a main bootable drive in future notebooks?
I still don’t feel different even after this announcement. It’s certainly a great sign but they’re saying we won’t see 64GB sizes until at least next year. That’s just working models and not mass production models. Also, we don’t know what the prices will be at this point. Let’s assume it takes at least another year to get them mass produced. So, 2007…64GB isn’t a whole lot of space considering the requirements of Vista and the increasing amounts of storage needed for media files and the such. 128GB is a nice size today but that’s at least 3 years out with an optimistic outlook.
I think hybrid devices will be huge in the meantime and much more effective. I’d like to see perpendicular-based hard disks with a 2-8GB flash buffer. You’d get instant on/off/sleep modes and faster boot times overall while being more cost effective and offering significantly more storage than a straight flash setup.
