Well, based on what you’ve told us that you want to do and on hardware specifications…the Compaq 2500 is probably a better deal.
In terms of CPU, the slowest CPU (2.4Ghz Pentium 4-M) you can get for the 2500 is noticeably faster than the TR (1Ghz Pentium M).
The Presario can go up to 2GB of memory max.
The Presario will take larger and faster hard disks.
The Presario has a larger screen although it’s probably not as nice as the TRs.
The Presario has a dedicated ATI-based 3D graphics chipset while the TR does not.
It’s not really a fair comparison since the TR is an ultraportable notebook while the Presario is more of a desktop replacement. Obviously, in terms of hardware the Presario wins out and will be more flexible in terms of running more software better. Ultraportable notebooks always have a trade off. They’re simply not as powerful as bigger notebooks.
