I have unlock my T with the help of sony. I pop in the sim and try play around with provider setting without any luck.

Any help setting up T-Mobile profile on a T. I am in california and would like to use my T-Mobile data plan from my cell sim for my laptop.

the instructions on how to unlock the sim card are on the vaio usa support page for the t350. alternatively you could just call them up and they will tell you how to unlock the sim card.

I have already unlock my laptop through sony.

I could not get data connection through the T-Mobile sim when I plugged the SIM in.

Is there some special T-Mobile profile you need to build in the connection manager?

yes there is

only one change

APN should be: internet2.voicestream.com

instead of: isp.cingular

everything else is identical.

no username

I have been using my laptop on a T-Mobile sim for around a week now and never been dropped.

The longest I have been connected is 5 hours on battery connected to T-Mobile and downloading files , emails and bidding on ebay…..never lost my connection.

As long as I have cached the sites I usually go to the connection feels very peppy. When a site has lots of images it’s a little slower.

ex. Open browser
Clear my cache
1. goto Ebay and it take 18 seconds to generate the page
2. exit browser but don’t clear cache
3. Open browser goto ebay and page opens with some updates in 10 seconds

I tested the timing on the “Battery Life” profile.

I am very happy to have a internet connection where ever I go when ever I want it

In California I was up in the mountains Angles National forest and had 4 bars!!!!

In New York I was in a taxi cab driving from Midtown to NJ and had 5 bars the whole time!!!

It is slow in NYC. They are rolling out EDGE over there as we speak.

I was connected EDGE almost anywhere in the Bay Area. I got 3 bars here in laguna beach and usutally it is 16-19kb/sec downloads.

It is 2-3 times the speed of a dial-up so it is very acceptable.

they have started rolling out 3G in poland. i used my t350 (connected to my nokia 6680 over bluetooth), driving around in my car using SKYPE! Excellent quality. I was talking to my long lost friends form Singapore. Talk about sticking it to the man. Unlimited data included in my GSM plan.

Clearly, a future T350 model would rock if it had EDGE and UMTS. Being connected to the internet all day by bluetooth would run down my mobile phone in a matter of 4 or 5 hours. With the integrated SIM card this has eliminated this problem entirely. I find that it is very economical with the juice.

Have tested useful aps program “usefulskype” which turns your nokia6680 into a headset for your computer (kindatheotherway around). It works but the poor sound quality makes it unuseable.

Gilbert, for the life of me i cannot setup a dial up networking connection for the built in sony ericsson EDGE modem. I cannot connect without using the cingular connection software (which is notoriously bad). Any advice you could lend would be appreciated.

It is easy.

turn on the WWAN

go to network connections

click to create a new connection

Choose “Connect to the Internet”

Choose “Setup Connection Manually”

Connect Using Dial Up-Modem

Check the Sony Erricson, Uncheck the other

Put a Name “Tmo” or something

Use *99***1# for a number

No Username

No Password

Finish the wizard, connect and you are done.

It is so easy, it is almost plain stupid

I prefer the Cingular software, since I can check my signal strenght.

I’ve heard speculations from a Cingular’s Rep that they had less than 1000 users who signed up for this nonsense and sony might be breaking the deal.

Hopefully Sony will learn from this mistake and build a non-vendor specific app and keep the V-Modem in the upcoming TX.

If they scrap the Cell Modem, It would be very stupid.

Quick Question.  If I’m using the T-Mobile SIM in an area where EDGE is available did you say it actually uses the EDGE technology and you can get higher speeds?  What is an average EDGE speed with T-Mobile you have received?

If I’m traveling in a car using GPRS and enter an EDGE area will the connection automaticaly bump up to the faster speeds or do I have to re-connect?

Do you know if there is a current map showing all the EDGE areas T-Mobile offers?  I did try searching for this on Tmobile website with no luck.
