My ADSL modem died today, after 4 years of 24/7 service. I want to get rid of all the cables on the floor, since I have an ISDN setup with the splitter, NTBA box, ADSL modem and the wireless router. I know I’ll have to keep the splitter and perhaps the NTBA box for my ISDN phone system—but I’m wondering if anybody knows any cool new devices they can suggest.

And just generally, for home network use, which brand would you recommend? I had a Netgear wireless router that served well until now, but I just don’t know how others are.

Please help me in my decision!

I’m happy with my Netgear DG834G ADSL Modem/Wireless Router.  Mounts on the wall behind my desk, helping to not add to the desktop clutter.

It’s interesting you mention that—I think I’ve decided on that very one. It seems to be the one for me.

The problem with the ones that incorporate phone services as well is that they do not contain an NTBA box for ISDN; you just have a single ISDN jack and the entire NTBA box gets plugged into there. So that wouldn’t get rid of an extra box for me. And this means that my best bet is to get a modem/router combo.
