My son will be using the TR1MP for schoolwork (Office 2003), games, imaging (still and video), internet and email and who knows what else! Will upgrading the memory to 512mb or 1gb really improve performance bearing in mind that he will probably use only one application at a time?
I would probably put in at least 512MB even though he’s single tasking. Windows XP uses well over 100MB on a default install and probably up to 128-150MB with all of the stuff loaded by Sony. Also, up to 64MB is used by the TR for graphics duties so that doesn’t leave you much to start with. When running the photo/video capture stuff you’ll definitely want to have more RAM. Video is a notorious memory hog and you’ll always want as much as you can have.
The upgrade to 512MB (buy a single 256MB module) should be relatively cheap…or you can upgrade to 768MB (buy a single 512MB module) which would be a little more. Going to 1GB would end up costing you more as you would need to purchase two 512MB modules and have to take out the existing 256MB module.
Actually, all hell is breaking loose in Southern California….it’s raining! We might get a massive 4 inches of rain over the next 24 hours…what will we Californians do?!
I’m besides myself…I’m used to my 72-75 degree F temperatures!!!

I think personally the prices in the US compared to the UK is obviously affected by the really good exchange rate that we have against the US. Also the overall cost of living taking into account earnings isn’t all that different though the US obviously does win that one.
Still, buy in the US were possible, then with your savings you might be able to half fill the tank in your car and make a lovely contribution to the treasury.
