Thats quite a scandalous name for a hurricane. Totally does not justify the plight of people going through it.

What’s so scandalous about Katrina? I much prefer that over Bob and Hortense.

Reminds me of the one-hit-wonder (I’m Walking on Sunshine) British 80’s pop group “Katrina and the Wave”.

Katrina in hindi which is my native language, is the god of ‘evil’ love 8) Sorry i expected you guys to know that. But anyway i guess after you guys told me about BOB, katrina aint that odd !

I’m from New York, so I remember Hurricane Bob . Hurricanes in the Americas are named after English, French and Spanish first names. Katrina in this case is a (germano-slavic?) variant of the Greek name Catherine, meaning pure. 

Words just cannot describe what is happening in Louisiana and Mississippi.  I have lived in Florida my entire life and remember Hurricane Andrew quite well. Our church did some relief work for that storm back in 1992.  As devastating as Andrew (sorry Drachen) was for South Florida, Katrina really made Andrew look friendly. 

From a geographical perspective, Katrina could not have hit a more vulnerable spot.

In other news, several hundred were killed in a stampede in Bagdad.  However, since people are killed in those areas all the time, hardly anyone cares.  Thousands die annually because of terrorism, but we have almost made 9/11 a mandatory ‘day of mourning’.

I am not trying to belittle 9/11, but we are so darn spoiled in this country.  I can ‘rag’ on Americans because I am one.

I have such happy thoughts of that song.  Me and my two little girls like to dance in the house to that. :D
