For the most part, it keeps all of the Loox-T (P series) traits with the 10.6” widescreen, magnesium alloy body, modular bay, memory card slot, integrated S-video out, good battery life and now, new flashier styling. The screen allegedly uses a new LED backlight so it’s supposed to be even brighter than before. There’s a fingerprint scanner as well. There’s an ECO button that turns off select features to get you even better battery life.

Using the Loox-S (P1xxx) series as a model, the new Loox-T is completely fanless for quiet operation. The keyboard is also improved to have less click sound so you can use it in a library without bothering people.

One of the modular bay options is a TV tuner so you can enjoy mobile TV.

One thing about the memory card slot is the loss of the CF card slot. The device still reads SD, Memory Stick, and xD formats directly though.

But what happens when they release the Super MultiDrive II Turbo: Champion Edition (Hyper Spinning) a few months later? You’ll be SOL.

Scary, isn’t it? When i first looked at it this morning I couldn’t tell what I was looking at. I’m sort of shocked at this since arguably, Fujitsu was one of the pioneers in the fully featured ultraportable widescreen market. I guess it must be flattering to Sony to see this new model. I was suprised to see them “downgrade” to the 1.8” HDD since the use of a 2.5” HDD was one of the huge reasons why many Loox T owners liked it so much. It seems that the s-video out port and the modularity is now the only thing that makes it stand out.

Biometrics?  awesome!  It seems it is becoming more common.

you need to brush up on your laptop knowledge outside of ultraportable Sony’s. If you really think that the extended battery and that style of media buttons was invented with the T, well lol, think again…

We all know that Fujitsu was the first to create the widescreen ultraportable notebook with the first Loox T in 2000-2001. Also first to have a DVD player under 3.5lbs. Also first to integrate wireless into the designs, etc. If not for them I’m not sure if Sony would have ever released the TR and the T. So, Fujitsu gets mad props…plus, their stuff is built rock solid.

It’s not that this stuff was invented by Sony. You just have to wonder how eerily similar the new styling of the Loox T (with the “standard” rear protuding battery) is to the Sony T series which launched much earlier. Also, the use of what is most likely a 1.8” HDD also follows Sony’s trend. Sony was the first to use such a thing in a laptop. Even the latchless design is a Sony innovation. I know the P7000 series had that but Sony introduced it way back with the Z1 series years ago.

So, perhaps knock off is a strong term but it similar and you can’t really deny that.

In any case…..... the one in white is sexy as hell :drool:

I wonder how its gonna handle fanless operation though :?

You’re right. The colors are different. The Sony orginally came in blue and burgundy. This one comes in white and burgundy. How could I have been so ignorant? It’s not like these two look otherwise similar in any way. I shall hang my head in shame.

Is it just me or does it seem weird to have the little speakers (or as the translator puts it: The bus reflex type box speaker adoption) behind the screen?

Nice and light though considering it’s got an optical drive.
