I have just purchased a TR1mp and installed Norton Antivirus that came with the machine. On bootup the taskbar notification icons (systray) for volume and battery/ac power status no longer appear. These icons are ‘checked’ to appear on the taskbar in their respective control panels and they appear in the Takbar Properties/notification area as hide when inactive, changing to always show makes no difference. I have also purchased a FR415S and the same thing has happened. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Windows XP hides inactive icons automatically. You should see a little left chevron by the time on the task bar. Click that and you should see all of your notification icons. If you don’t like that behavior, right-click on the taskbar and click properties. There’s an option to turn it off at the bottom.
Thank you for your reply. Windows has not yet started to hide unused icons yet, I am familiar with the ‘chevron’ etc. The volume and battery icons have simply disappeared!
Do you ever get any error messages about Explorer.exe crashing? That’s the only other reason I can think of for tray icons to disappear. The usual cause for crashing is spyware. Beyond the obvious stuff, I’ve never really encountered your problem.
No error messages or any other problems. I have noticed that since installing Norton the machine runs much more slowly but I hope to alleviate this, in part, with a RAM upgrade. No spyware. By the way, my wife says “please do smile in your next picture” but maybe, like me, you don’t have a lot to smile about!
Thanks a million! The only other setting I had changed was Upnp for wireless network purposes. Both laptops have gone to school now but I will uninstall this evening and let you know.
They might well but XP SP2 seems so far away, one minute they are bringing it forward, next minute they are pushing it back. It does sound quite good on paper though, some of the chances.
