I’m sure many members here have some sort of Pentium M/Centrino platform device. I came across this nifty utility that tells you almost all the information you want to know about that device and ways to control many facets of it such as clock speeds, multipliers, voltages, temperatures, SMART info, battery info, GPU clocks, etc. It can run in your tray too and show you lots of useful information!

Make sure you have the Microsoft .NET framework installed. Look at the bottom of that page for the link.

Yeah, it’s pretty good so far. I actually normally use RMClock 1.5 (now at 1.6) which essentially does the same thing but only focuses on the CPU part. RMClock also allows me to get insane battery life out my standard and extended batteries.

Both are highly recommended if you want to maximize your battery life.  :wink:

Mr. Anonymous, which system are you running? Is it the standard setup? Did you reinstall the OS? Do you have .NET 1.1 installed? Do you have any other type of software possibly affecting the CPU? If it doesn’t work for you then I would suggest trying RMClock which essentially does the same thing and allows you to fully control the Pentium M CPU in terms of max multipliers and throttling.

I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to use the voltage settings on this Centrino software to reduce my voltage to make my S460 run cooler and increase battery life. Could one of you fine fellows please let me know what your settings are (if you have an s460) or give me some idea how to set them myself? The online help is useless and I am terrified of messing up my computer.

^^^ it’s really easy.. you just check the box next to the speed multiplier, and then pull the drop down screen to reveal the voltages. @ 6x multiplier, i dropped it 2 steps down to like 8.14* volts or so..

now my Question:
is everyone running this in conjunction w/ TR/T/S’s powerpanel software??? i don’t think one’s ‘reading’ the other…

(edit: errr.i meant 0.81* volts even…)

This is a real cool application. What’s your optimal settings when running on battery?  :D

I set to battery optimized, cpu voltage to 0.700v and not monitor hdd when run battery mode.
My T250 last longer about 1h than before without CHC installed.
8.5 ~ 9h with level 1 brightness, optical drive off, 16bit color, BT off and surf internet, office.

that was me! I just installed opera 8.02 over 7.5. Don’t believe the instructions, install to a new directory, and copy over all the needed config files, don’t forget wand.dat Anyway, I am looking for ANYTHING that will speed up this TR3 and cool it down too.  It’s become such a slogger I am thinking about getting a replacement. Programs like Outlook, Adobe PS CS2 and InDesign are becoming unbearable…
