over the last few days,
when my battery reading on my tr5 goes to 40 percent the sytem goes into hibernate as if the battery was totally dead. Then when i plug it in and check the battery it says it’s at 1 percent and charging.
And i’ve checked the hibernation and power managment settings…nothing has been changed and my battery has been working fine for about 8 months now…
this just started happenign a few days ago.
And i’m only getting like an hour and a half out of a fully charged battery and liek i said before it shuts goes into hibernate at 40percent and has a reading of empty when i plug it in and turn it on again…
Do you think my battery is screwed?
Any reccomendations on what to try?
And if the battery is screwed any good sites where I could get a new one at?
I know they sell a lot of extended life batteries on ebay but i’ve heard that their quality can be kinda shotty any thoughts about this? has anyone bought and tried one of those?

do you think doing a recovery of the system would do anything?
or do you think it’s purely a hardware battery problem?

I have heard there is a possibiity the battery indicator circuit was uncalibrrated. If you keep your battery charged most of the time, the battery indicator circuit loses its accuracy over time. In this case, running the computer to a very low battery recalibrates the circuit and now it will be fine.

On the other hand, it sounds like this happened more than once, which more likely means the battery is shot. If you regularly run your lappy until your battery is very low, this is by far the most likely explaination. After 8 months, Sony is not likely to give you a new battery. But if you bought the extended service, you can give it a go.

The (least likely) third option is that there is something wrong with your motherboard, which would be a waranty repair.

Sounds to me like the battery is cactus. I had the same issue a few times with various subnotes. My Libretto last week used to run perfectly for an hour and then when it got to about 45% it would suddenly drop instantly to zero and scream at me.

Time for a new battery.

If you can get an original one for any sort of dcent price go for it but the ones off flea bay are OK too and a lot cheaper. I bought a vaio one and the first two were faulty (just didn’t hold charge after the first time) and the seller sent me replacements and the third one is still working fine.

What is a good price for the original one?
And do the tr2 and tr3 batteries work on the tr5? are they the same model? cuz i’ve yet to see a tr5 battery…only replacements for the tr2 and tr3.

i had the same issue… but… mine would drop to 4% battery life… and still have about 40 mins left… it was weird watching it.

forgot to mention that i had to turn offf the hibernation feature…

so what did u do then?
after shutting off the hibernation it worked fine?
mine’s not actually showing that it has more or less battery than it actually does, it just immediatlely drops done to 0 percent and goes into hibernate when it hits about 40 percent battery life…
i’m really confused,
guess i’m jus gonna have to get a new battery…
