As someone who has had a Palm M100, PalmV, Dell Axim X5, and now a TREO 650, i can honestly say that the TREO is probably the most useful gadget i’ve bought since this TR.
A couple observations:
1) PALM is a superior OS than PPC (don’t flame me, its just my opinion)
2) PALM has more apps.
3) Regardless of scripting languages (graffiti, Transcriber, etc), nothing beats being able to thumb out an e-mail the way blackberries/treos allow with a keyboard (albeit, mini).
4) My previous PDAs were never within reach (i’d always forget it, leave it in my briefcase, not take to a meeting, etc.). B/C most folks never go anywhere without their phone, the TREO is perfect for always having your PDA handy.
5) Integration is key. I used to come up with all sorts of crazy workarounds to sync my Outlook contents to my Dell and then trying to get those phone numbers to my Cell. Now, its one Palm sync a week and i’m good to go.
6) Don’t buy PDA/Phone or anything for its camera feature. It’s all gonna suck, although the treo is serviceable for taking pictures of products you see at the store that you want to do more research on later. It’s become my defacto note taker. See a book at B&N you want to read reviews about, just take a pic of it….price shopping…take a pic of the product tag and hit the internet later….that’s about all its good for.
7) Integrated “Blazer” browser on the Treo rocks and works seemlessly. I love mapquesting on the fly.
8) Versamail is worth its weight in gold. Instant access to POP3 e-mail anywhere you can get a cell signal.
I"m sure i’m forgetting some other stuff, but i can’t say enuff good things about the TREO 650.
