There are only two things that scare me away from this keyboard:
- I use split ergonomic keyboards
- I have a nasty habit of getting things like chicken tikka masala sauce on my keyboard. OLEDs don’t like liquids…
I hate (HATE!!!!) ergo keyboards, they bug the crud out of me so much! I honestly would rather risk getting carpal tunnel syndrome then using one of those!

same here… i guess i kinda am being hypocritical b/c i do have one but it isnt split… the keys are just different… but generally i dont care for ergo anywayz.. i’ve always been used to laptop keyboards so i get messed up trying to constantly adjust between the 2… (thats why i was interested in the Luminx keyboard  )
Chicken tikka masala? Not terribly. There was a time when I went to one of the places in Curry Hill (Lex around 28th st) and ordered a Lamb Vindaloo. When the waiter asked “spicy?” I said, “Sure, why not?”
I’m normally OK with lamb vindaloo, but not at white-guy-wants-to-impress-his-friends-and-eat-the-hottest-thing-on-the-menu spicy.

+1. I don’t type ‘correctly’. I learned to type on my own and I have my own style…which doesn’t work with a split board. I reach with the wrong hands but I have very good accuracy and I type rather quickly. At first I didn’t think so until I saw my mom type. She was ‘trained’ when she was 15 for her first job. She’s been typing ever since…and she is quick, but not as quick as I am. She stared at me wondering how I type so incorrectly, yet so quick.
Point of the matter is if you give me a split board, I am lost, my typing slows down and my wrists feel like they are going to break.
Some of the Q&A with the designer is informative (and amusing):
TC: Is it Waterproof/Spill Proof?
Art: We will sell coffee cup holder to be attached to the table leg separately. Because we don’t plan to make this keyboard coke-proof in order to lower the production cost.
TC: How Heavy?
Art: We don’t know that yet. But weight should not be a matter, since this keyboard was not designed to be wireless (we did not intend to supply it with notebook batteries
TC: I guess I didn’t make myself clear… What I meant is more like, since there are all these little ‘video’ screens and lots more circuits, what sort of protective measures will you be using?
Art: Well… try to pour coffee into your monitor. Not all the things on Earth have to be THAT foolproof.
TC: Is it wired, how long is wire (usb or ps2 interface)?
Art: It will sport an USB port so that users will be able to find longer cable if needed.
TC: Can the keys be programmed to make an entire image from the keys? Sort of a mosaic type image?
Art: Sure.
TC: Are you going to have like a screensaver type thing that when you walk away from your computer the keys can form some custom image, or maybe even an advertisement!
Art: Your idea is to call it a screen-saver. We call it a key-saver.
Its a good idea, I just don’t see how they plan to fit their $200-300 price point…and I don’t see many people actually paying it…even though plenty say they would.
you may have a point. I was desparate to get a Logitech Dinovo but wouldn’t pay the $250 or so they wanted here. Even when I could get a refurbished one for $175 it still stopped me. For $150 yes. And so for the OLED cool factor I’d pay $200 but $300? hmmm. If I could fake up an receipt, and then hide the transaction from the wife….well, maybe.

Yup, great example…when announced I knew a ton of people who wanted the Dinovo, me included…I was the only one to take a plunge…and it took forever for me to decide and it was on sale. Now that I’ve used it I would re-buy it in a second, but the initial purchase was hard to swallow. Their estimate of $200-300 is fairly low IMO because it wont be mass produced…there is too small of a market for it. I’d believe they would be able to sell it at $400-450 at which point it will never make it to market or it will flop.
That being said…if it ever comes out, I am sooo buying one…meaning when its out for a year and on sale
I’m getting one the instant it comes out unless I find out that the OLED’s don’t last or something that affects teh quality. I would have gone with the DiNovo but something stopped me from purchasing it everytime I had some spare cash. Almost always ended up buying a pair of jeans or shoes.
