It will run however it just won’t have all the fancy UI effects. It will revert to a “classic” UI for speed purposes. However, the main functionality will be the same.

Speaking of which…remember that this is a Beta level product and Microsoft has already stated this does not represent the final product in any way. This is just a release for developers to test out lower level stuff like drivers, networking, services, etc. Anything UI related or functionality related will be released in later Betas and release candidates.

FWIW, MSConfig will most likely be replaced with WinSAT or a similar utility. You can learn a little more about it here .

I was curious about Office and tried to load Office XP. It went fine. Also, was able to load all 3 service packs with out a hitch.

Thats odd because I couldn’t get mine to load to save my life…lol. I am about to take down this system and go back to XP.

I am using vista right now on my TR. Obviously I am having some dirver problems. I cant get the sound to work even though the drivers seem to be installed. Not to mention, motion eye, memory stick drive, modem and some other things. I think it works with XP drivers.

I am remembering a post by Rahul about “Getting stuff out of the recovery cds” and I am thinking of trying some of the XP drivers. Any easier ways to find them, BTW?

Anyone with Vista on the TR was able to solve the sound problem?

BIt cranky as downloaded the longhorn 5048 and then read the reviews which weren’t positive. I’ll install it anyway just for fun but now i need to wait for the Vista.

Nice! I normally like some of the stuff Paul Thurrott writes but I can’t agree fully with him. First of all, please show me a mainstream browser that can pass the Acid2 test. Not even Firefox 1.0.6 passes the test.

It’s surprisingly refreshing to hear MS actually talking about fixing all of the stupid (well, ignored really) bugs in IE. Whenever I as a web programmer have to deal with CSS or DHTML that’s more than trivial, I have to jump over so many hoops just to get more than one modern browser to do what I want. The sad part is that I’ve gotten used to the bugs in IE and at one point when my company had gone exclusively with IE (which really didn’t pan out due to spyware and Macs) and there are still a lot of important pages out there that would be utterly broken if IE went with a perfectly-W3C-compliant DOM. When I weigh the main menu of my company’s Intranet vs the browser making a proper face on some compatability test, I will go with my company every time.
