hey guys,
i just got a new t140 vaio but i’m having problems connecting to the net.
I hooked up a new linksys wireless G router. 
It’s connected to the linksys router and shows 100 percent connection strenght but when i try to use the net it wont let me. 

When i tried to repair the connection it says that I may have limited or no access to the internet connection.

I have my desktop directly wired to the router as well and even that is not working once I plug the internet cable into the router and try to connect my pc with a lan wire.

My desktop does however work when it’s connected directly to the modem without the router intervening.

I know there is probably some settings that I need to change but I can’t figure out.

Is there something in internet connection sharing that needs to be enabled or disabled?

Do I need to possibly upgrade the firmware for the router?(this was a problem with my t series that I had)

What settings should I check?

Again , the laptop is connected fine to the router with fulll strength and internet connection sharing is enabled, but when i try to open a webpage it wont open neither will msn or any internet functions.

When i repair it says i may have limited or no access to the connection.

My desktop also cannot use the internet when hard wired to the modem thru the router….

What do I do?!?!??

Many cable modems are kind of funky in that they only allow traffic to the MAC (essentially network card unique ID number) address that it finds when you turn the modem on. If you need to switch the modem off before you plug it into the router, then turn it back on again. The router and the desktop should work then.

As for the wireless problem, I’d say try to turn all security options off and try connecting.

Try typing “192.168.1.100” in the browser window with the desktop connected to router, a dialog box should pop up asking for a username and password. Do not type anything in the username box, but for the password box type “default” and you should be able to log into the router (this is the default password). From here fill out your ISP settings on the Setup page and enable DHCP server on the bottom and save changes. Once that is done go to the Status tab on the top right and click on Connect (which will allow the router and the cable modem to connect to the internet). Finally on the Wireless tab, enable SSID broadcast and make up an SSID name. Your laptop should be able to connect by now.

Also I recommend that you enable WEP or WPA if possible.

I use SMC and I’ve had to use the reset button in the router a few times. I had to go through the whole setup again and everything worked great. Try the reset button on the router. It worked for me.

The other thing that’s solved problems is after going through the whole setup process, I would turn off the router and the modem. I would turn the modem on first, wait for all the lights to go on, then turn on the router. That’s worked for me 2.

Drachen’s original advice worked after trying it again.
I just had to turn the router on first with the modem off and then turn the modem on afterwards and i’m up and running and posting
